حين تكون الصحفية تمارس عملها المهني ضمن المعايير، فتُستدعى أو تُمنع من النشر لأن مادتها "تجاوزت الخطوط الحمر. حينها، تتدخل وزارة الإعلام وتُصدر بيانات تتحدث عن الدفاع عن حرية الصحافة. لكن عندما "تلبس الصحفية صرماية العلوية بأكبر راس بالبلد" ثم تُوقَف على خلفية قضية لا تمتّ بصلة للعمل الصحفي، لا يحقّ لوزارة الإعلام أن تتدخل أو تُقدّم نفسها كمدافع عن حرية الصحافة. مادامت التهمة الموجهة إليها لا تتعلق بممارستها للعمل الصحفي، فبأي حق تتدخل وزارة الإعلام؟ وما علاقتها من الأساس؟ القضاء وحده هو من يقرر مصير الموقوف، وليس وزارة الإعلام التي لا تملك أي صلاحية قانونية للتوسط أو التدخل.

While I appreciate the intent of my colleagues on the Financial Services Committee and @RepMikeLawler for bringing up the timely issue of streamlining Syria sanctions, I believe that a clean repeal of the Caesar Act is most in line with the President’s agenda to “give Syria a chance.” Keeping Caesar on the books for years will only deter long term reconstruction which could help ISIS resurgence.

The Syrian Minister of Health and the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor were part of the convoy that Hikmat al-Hijri prevented from entering to suwayda, simply because they were representatives of the Syrian government. These patriotic officials risked their lives to reach ground zero, yet al-Hijri refused to let them in. And now some people have the nerve to label them as extremists and falsely accuse them of starving or harming Suwayda. All respect and appreciation to you and your efforts, honorable ministers.

Reports suggest hostilities have ended in #Suwayda, as tribal forces withdrew from the city per ceasefire conditions. The humanitarian crisis is appalling. A large aid convoy (coordinated by govt & SARC) is now in #Daraa waiting to enter. Calm heads *desperately* needed now.
