U.S. House lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation that would require electric vehicles to pay a $130 fee to pay for road repairs annually and $35 for some plug-in hybrid models.
The House is working on a five-year highway reauthorization bill expected to cost more than $500 billion ahead of the current law expiration on Sept 30, 2026. Most revenue for federally funded road repairs is collected through diesel and gasoline taxes, which EVs do not pay.
I think $130 is fair since over time there will be fewer gas vehicles on the road generating tax revenue, They'll need to make up the difference somewhere so they can keep repairing roads, etc.

SpaceX/xAI has just announced that it has signed an agreement with Anthropic to provide access to its Colossus 1 supercomputer. "Anthropic plans to use this additional compute to directly improve capacity for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers. As part of this agreement, Anthropic also expressed interest in partnering to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity. The compute required to train and operate the next generation of these systems is outpacing what terrestrial power, land, and cooling can deliver on the timelines that matter. Built from the ground up in record time, Colossus delivers unprecedented scale for AI training, fine-tuning, inference, and high-performance computing workloads. Colossus 1 features over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, including dense deployments of H100, H200, and next-generation GB200 accelerators. The cluster delivers extreme parallel performance for large language models, multimodal systems, scientific simulations, and generative AI at frontier scale. SpaceX is the only organization with the launch cadence, mass-to-orbit economics, and constellation operations experience to make orbital compute a near-term engineering program rather than a research concept. If engineering challenges can be overcome, space-based compute offers near-limitless sustainable power with less impact on Earth." I think this is smart for SpaceX/xAI, as it seems to have some excess capacity as Colossus, so why not make a some money on the side by renting that compute capacity out. I think we'll see some more similar partnerships soon.

One of my friend’s brother’s recently got laid off. He was making $350k annually working in tech. He had a Nice house, $8,000/month mortgage, nice cars, vacations every few months.
Got laid off 6 months ago. Still jobless.
He apparently took out $100,000 HELOC to cover bills, he’s burning through $10,000/month with no relief near in sight.
This is someone I saw winning in life. Now there down BAD.
This is an important lesson to save at least 6 month emergency fund to cover bills.
Also an important lesson on lifestyle inflation. Only because you make more money doesn’t mean you should always spend more too.

Prior to the war the U.S. IC assessed Iran wasn’t developing a nuclear weapon & their enrichment program was obliterated in June by our airstrikes.
The Israelis were concerned that Trump was about to get a deal with Iran & launched an attack on Iran knowing the Iranians would respond by attacking us, thereby sucking us into the war.
