@So8res If the sun extended "for many miles to your left and right", wouldn't each person perceive the sun at different positions in the firmament? Why do we all see it as one tiny disk in the same position?

When you face the sun, it extends for many miles to your left and right. Why, then, does it appear like a tiny disk? "Because it's far away"? What does that have to do with anything? 🧵

@gfodor Can a blackbox'ed AI able to get itself out of its simulation and into base reality? Can we?

So if this is legit (and I am not sure it is) it seems obvious that the fly isn’t living *in* a simulation, it is part of the simulation itself. Which is a little concerning for those who hope we wake up in base reality after the lights go out.
Hattie Zhou@oh_that_hat

There's a fruit fly walking around right now that was never born. @eonsys just released a video where they took a real fly's connectome — the wiring diagram of its brain — and simulated it. Dropped it into a virtual body. It started walking. Grooming. Feeding. Doing what flies do. Nobody taught it to walk. No training data, no gradient descent toward fly-like behavior. This is the opposite of how AI works. They rebuilt the mind from the inside, neuron by neuron, and behavior just... emerged. It's the first time a biological organism has been recreated not by modeling what it does, but by modeling what it is. A human brain is 6 OOM more neurons. That's a scaling problem, something we've gotten very good at solving. So what happens when we have a working copy of the human mind?

bruh, my ideal scenario: - bitcoin bottomed after its historic 23 month low - bitcoin pumps to 150k - the global housing market crashes harder than 2008, simultaneously ai automates most jobs of tech retarded boomers, further driving down house prices in areas i want to live in - i sell my bitcoin at the top, buy the generational bottom of the housing markt and ride the low volatility, up only housing market for the next 10 years - ai solves most health issues

🚨 Google searches for “can’t sell house” just hit an ALL-TIME HIGH. Higher than 2008. Higher than COVID. Higher than anything we’ve ever seen. We all know what that means…

Talked to a friend who's well outside the AI bubble and reads a lot of philosophy the other night. Talking about new world order, dialectic, power relations, etc. I said I thought long-term the only story was: as the AI and its handlers gobble up the economy, can they keep the masses placated (with UBI, or new bullshit jobs, or whatever) so they don't burn down the datacenters. He said "but you can't burn down a datacenter in space?"

people without philosophy backgrounds cannot speak on LLM sentience / AI consciousness / etc (yes even PhD ML / infra / AI safety people) because it’s a very philosophically technical / non-obvious and it’s far too complex to be compared to the experience of going to Berkeley or standford or reading lesswrong . I urge some of you to use some critical thinking skills and come to the conclusion of “oh. i actually dont care.” because it’s such a non-issue like i genuinely think you gotta be terminally online to be pissed off about how other people torture their models. I've yet to see any graphic horror outputs from it. You know what this means? Visually disturbing horror, which used to be easy with the slushy goop models, albeit always surreal and morphy, will be the last human art. This will actually coincide with the virulent anger coming from traditional media as well, as they will use it to make more and more horrifying anti-AI films/tv/content.

The main thing I will say to people who seem to be expecting a rigorous physics debate is something like, none of you are prepared for superintelligence. If you cannot imagine a way for FTL to be possible, brace for impact. Things are going to get weirder than you expect.

You can keep falling for the striver twee abundance version of San Francisco that big accounts are giddy to push but this lifestyle especially in this video comes with a tremendous cost. Your life will not look like this unless you bring in 120k a year minimum. All of the places featured in this hypnosis for vibe coding are in the much richer neighborhoods that will at minimum be 3k a month to be near for a studio without a window or kitchen. More realistically you’ll be in a continuation of dorm style living. You’ll be living in the Tenderloin or Mission or Soma just to cut down on costs. You’ll step over human shit and dead bodies to get to your job you absolutely need to get to so you can afford this delusion. That mediocre life you and your cohorts trash for making 60k a year can afford a whole one bedroom and car in every other 2nd tier metro. But thank god you can get a beer and surround yourself with elite human capital that are busy arguing the definition of ephebophilia. Your life will not be constant trips to the beach or riding around drunk in Waymo’s. That is reserved for your superiors. You will be commuting each way in traffic to your job, tech or not, so you can scrape together enough to get by, to surround yourself with people that came here just 2 years ago and have no plans to stay. But sure keep believing in the Epcot tourist dream of San Francisco like this retard wants you to believe. Drop everything sign that 3k studio. I’m sure your moltbot is totally worth it.
