BREAKING: Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis now say they are now prepared to advance Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general after Blanche rescinded Trump’s controversial $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund. Blanche rescinded the $1.8 billion fund, but he appears to have left the Trump family’s IRS protections largely in place. The underlying settlement reportedly still bars the IRS from auditing or pursuing liability based on tax returns or conduct before May 18, 2026 for Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, the Trump Organization, and other specifically named parties. Blanche’s new order says the protection is retroactive and limited to the people covered by the settlement, rather than permanent immunity from all future audits.
