A time may come sooner than later, when the titans stall and the real disruptors, those who imagine a better healthcare delivery system not a more profitable one, will be taken seriously. #telehealth #digitalhealth

If you're taking a GLP1 agonist (ex ozempic) and have an elective surgery coming up you MUST tell your anesthesiologist and stop the meds 2+ weeks beforehand. Many anesthesiologists report increased cases of aspiration (patient vomits, gunk goes to lungs) because patients are withholding this info. It doesn't matter if you got it off the black/gray market. It doesn't matter if you're taking a "microdose" - tell your doctor. This is one of those ... Could save your life kinda things.

Methylene blue, a synthetic textile dye, is currently a hugely popular supplement amongst people who reject mainstream medicine and insist they only want to take natural treatments. Yes you read that correctly.

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD, PCKD) is a genetic disorder that results in many cysts growing within the kidneys. They may form before birth, during childhood, or in adulthood. When cysts develop before birth growth failure or breathing problems may occur. Otherwise symptoms may include flank pain, blood in the urine, and headaches. Complications may include kidney failure, high blood pressure, liver cysts, aortic aneurysm, and cerebral aneurysm. It occurs as a result of a genetic mutation. Generally this is inherited from a persons parents though may rarely occur spontaneously during early development. The cysts form from non-functioning tubules that have fluid pumped into them. There are two types autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). The diagnosis maybe confirmed by medical imaging or genetic testing. There is no cure. Treatment may include lifestyle changes and medications to reduce blood pressure such as ACE inhibitors. Kidney failure may be managed with dialysis or kidney transplant. About 30% of those with ARPKD die within the first few weeks of life. More than half of people with ADPKD develop kidney failure by the age of 70. PKD affects about half a million people in the United States. ADPKD affects about 1 in 700 people and ARPKD affects about 1 in 20,000 children. Males and females are affected equally frequently The condition was first described in the 16th and 17th centuries. #MEDHM

@Jonathan_Witt The complexity of regulations to make the NHI Bill viable are lost on them and this is both good and bad for everyone especially in terms of health and innovation. It is a case of the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind.

Motsoaledi and Crisp would need to be removed for there to be any hope of ongoing quality healthcare in this country. As long as they’re in place we’re headed for disaster.

@AFRICANDEMOC @tim_meh87 You will have to prove that the situation has materially changed between both parties to advance this application. In the meantime, the court order stands. If you want to appeal or review the order, go to High Court as the same court can't overrule another magistrate

We really have to talk about the explosion of adult diapers. Picture below is about 8m in shelf space of adult diapers. Moms of gaming kids tell me that they buy their toilet trained teenagers diapers because of online gaming. Lillets the well known for menstrual products has now moved into adult diapers! Lillets is owned by JSE Premier

@RenaldoGouws @PeterDermauw She was having a battle with the HOA because she hadn't paid levies on 10 years so she trumped up a racist incident to become a victim. In the end we moved out but I will never help my neighbours again.

@RenaldoGouws @PeterDermauw She took the magistrate to court for being a racist so the case dragged on. She failed to pitch ti court and case was struck off. Then she was allowed to reopen the case by saying she was still being harassed. I never ever spoke to this person in my life.

This is why more and more South Africans are too scared to do a good deed. There is always someone ready to call something being done "racist". It has now been established, through video evidence, that Santa gave EVERY child attention and the reason for the delay in the beginning was because his bakkie got stuck and when he eventually got there was bombarded with children wanting to spend time with him. He eventually started spending time with the kids even though the planned sit down with Santa was supposed to happen in an orderly fashion. As I have said many times before... people who accuse others of racism need to face the full extent of the law. By making wild claims and accusations you know the media will jump on it and make someone's life a living hell. The cherry on the cake is this was an act of kindness where no money was requested to bring joy to those kids. And the way some people say thank you is by causing a racial incident and fear to the people who want to do good. Now tell me if you would hold it against this person if they decide to never do something like this again in the future... how many good memories have now been destroyed because of the false claims of ONE person? How many others won't take the "risk" of kind gestures because of this? We all need to unite against these race grifters and make it so uncomfortable for them to shout racism when they aren't even sure about the facts. Let's do better.

No need to make a thread, I think this one comes down to culture: in China people just don't drink cold water. An anecdote on this. When my elder daughter was still a toddler in her stroller, we were waiting for our plane in an airport lobby in Shanghai and she was thirsty so I gave her cold mineral water to drink. People around us were absolutely appalled, some older ladies even physically took the bottle away from her and started berating me as if I'd given my daughter poison! And to them it is: according to Traditional Chinese Medicine concepts cold water is extremely disruptive to the Stomach and Spleen's homeostasis and can cause strong digestion issues. So I think that's probably the main explanation: what would be the point of making huge investments to deliver cold potable water to people's tap if no-one is going to drink it? The water just needs to be good enough so that it is potable after boiling, which it is. To test this theory observe Chinese tourists in countries that do have potable tap water and you will see 100% that, despite this, still none of them are drinking it.
Arx@Accelrush8

@RnaudBertrand Can you make a thread about the challenges China has regarding clean water? I cannot understand, they have a cutting edge space station, neutrino capture stations and high speed rail across their country but the water out of the tap isn't potable. I genuinely don't get it

Terminal ileum should just be renamed to distal ileum. This is because some patients see their diagnosis of terminal ileal Crohn’s disease and start to panic. Secondly, the word terminal is not used to describe any other body part (please feel free to prove me wrong!)
