Today we commemorate the victims of the 1985 MOVE massacre, when Philadelphia police under black Democratic mayor Wilson Goode, in collaboration with the BATF conducted an aerial bombing of the MOVE house. 11 people were killed, including 5 children, and a whole black neighborhood destroyed, leaving hundreds homeless. This is the strike bulletin from the Passaic textile strike 100 years ago. Involving 15k workers fighting for a union, higher wages and better conditions, the strike lasted more than a year and came to symbolize struggle of entire working class in anti-labor 1920s.

March 2, 1926: Thousands of striking workers are dispersed while marching to the Botany Worsted Mills in Passaic, N.J., as police hurl tear gas and firefighters blast them with hoses. Although the strikers appear to move peacefully, police say it’s an illegal gathering.

March 3, 1926: A textile strike in Passaic, N.J., escalates as workers attempt to march a day after authorities dispersed them with fire hoses. Boys throw snowballs and rocks at the police, who respond by charging the mass of people, swinging clubs wildly. 1/3
