One of the key unknowns in the current campaign is whether the Houthis will enter the fight. It’s important to be clear: Houthi involvement would significantly complicate the situation — especially when it comes to the global energy market, regardless of the Israeli dimension. If they join, the most likely immediate move is clear: disruption or closure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. They also have the capability to strike energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, but given current market conditions, they may not even need to escalate that far. A sustained disruption in Bab el-Mandeb — combined with Iranian efforts to pressure or block the Strait of Hormuz would be enough to push the situation into a far more severe global crisis. At that point, we are no longer dealing with a regional confrontation, but with a major shock to global energy flows — and by extension, the global economy. The real challenge is how to deter the Houthis from entering the conflict in the first place. This could range from direct and indirect threats to alternative incentives — but as long as there is leverage to prevent their involvement, it should be used, Because once they enter the equation, the situation becomes significantly more complex — particularly given the current fragility of the energy market and the sensitivity of oil prices. #IranWar
