The data is in: when enhanced premium tax credits go away, coverage goes down. ACA enrollment has already dropped by 1.2M & that’s only the beginning. United Health Group (UHG) recently reported their Q1 2026 results, exceeding earnings expectations with $111.7 billion in revenue—a 2% year-over-year increase. They attribute their positive performance to “improved medical cost management.” Just so we are all clear - medical cost management is code for prior authorization, downcoding, care denials, etc. They take pride in denying care because it looks good on their earnings report.

The new federally-mandated prior auth disclosures were supposed to deliver transparency. Instead, as @modrnhealthcr reports, they "provide little insight into what services are approved or denied," scattered across websites & presented in inconsistent formats. Some companies tout great numbers, but have to caveat with footnotes (see below).
