NEW- Regional shifts in 🇨🇳 coal mining is limiting methane emissions, @BobingQ writes for @CarbonBrief Mining is increasingly in north/northwest mines with lower gas content. Methane emissions are up in these provinces, but falling in many others. Link to the article below ⬇️

That's my current mental taxonomy for China's industrial exposure to the Hormuz closure. tl;dr: Low risk for refined fuels, moderate concern warranted re: methanol, and major supply/price risk for naphtha, LPG, and sulfur. Learned a lot putting this together. Hope it's helpful!

At the same time, the consensus at COP30 seemed to be that the economic benefits of the energy transition - not multilateral climate agreements - are now what will be driving climate ambition worldwide. As such, China will be at the forefront of climate action for some time yet.
