Dangote's planned oil refinery in Lamu will require a new generation of highly specialized welders. The same skills will be needed in shipbuilding and other strategic industries. We must ensure that when these opportunities arise, Kenyan youth are first in line, not watching from the sidelines because they lack the required skills. The ongoing revival of Kenya’s automotive industry is also creating demand for a new generation of mechanics, particularly those skilled in electric vehicles. These are well-paying, high-impact jobs, and we cannot afford to prepare after the opportunities have arrived. As a Ministry, we have made a deliberate decision not to wait until Kenyans complain that they are being left out of key technical jobs. We will prepare our young people early. Today, I visited the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) in Nairobi, where I directed the institution to develop, within the next 10 days, a training curriculum aligned to our national priorities and the industrialisation agenda as set out by H.E. President William Ruto. Beyond specialized welding, KIRDI has the capacity to equip our youth with practical skills in value addition for leather, honey, tea, coffee and other priority value chains. With financing from the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) and strong collaboration with county governments, we can nurture a new generation of local industrialists and change the narrative that only foreign investors can establish factories in our County Industrial Parks and Special Economic Zones. I also challenged KIRDI to partner with schools through industrial tours and career talks to expose learners to opportunities in manufacturing and innovation from an early age. We must inspire the next generation to see industry as a viable and rewarding career path. The next time a teacher asks, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I hope many more children will confidently answer, "I want to be an industrialist." Later, we visited the upcoming KIRDI Techno Centre in South B, which is under construction. Our vision is to develop it into a centre of excellence for industrial research, innovation, skills development and manufacturing, serving not only Kenya but the wider region. I was accompanied by PS for Industry Dr. Juma Mukhwana, KIRDI Board Chair Eng. Peter Mositet, and KIRDI CEO Dr. Kelvin Khisa. @MITIKenya

When Mumias Sugar Collapsed the entire economy around it also collapsed. Frame 1: These dilapidated one-roomed houses is where sugarcane truck drivers lived. Those who remained behind are now living in squalor. Frame 2: This was a very active commercial centre inside the complex, just a few meters from the factory. Here, there was: - Post Office - Bus Booking offices, in fact, Easy Coach parked here all the way from Nairobi. - Police Station - Shops, the first Mumias M-Pesa in 2007, were set up here. - Nation had an active courier shop here. Frame 3: These are offices of Asians who were contracted to transport cane. They owned hundreds of trucks and tractors. The place is now a shell. Frame 4: Former employees of the company have resorted to doing menial jobs like burning charcoal to make a living. Fuck you, Kidero.

Me personally, i think there is a silver lining in this draught. It’s time we became serious as a nation and actually put in some work. If countries in the desert like Israel and Egypt can produce tonnages of food, why not us? being dependent on rain in big 2026 is such a joke. If we cannot get serious about efficient farming methods, productivity and irrigation, let us perish. It’s called Darwinianism

Couldn't resist stopping at Kilifi Bridge on my way back to Mombasa. 🌊✨ Kilifi Creek never disappoints... calm waters, anchored boats, and views that make you pause for a moment.
