About an hour ago we posted that 🇪🇸Getafe would be seeded in the Conference League play-off only if 🇧🇪Gent lost to 🇺🇦LNZ Cherkasy. Then we watched our feed fill up with people saying Getafe IS seeded, based on other simulators, while plenty of others were sharing our post. We're new here. Less than three weeks old, a small project built by football fans. The other simulators are established names — some charge hundreds of dollars, offer consultancy to clubs, and gate their numbers behind strict distribution policies. So we asked ourselves the honest question: what if they're right and we're wrong? At the end of the day, we're the new ones. We took our post down until we could verify, because the last thing we want is to mislead anyone. We verified. Against UEFA's own rules, coefficient by coefficient. Getafe is unseeded. Here's the full derivation, so you don't have to take anyone's word for it — including ours. First, the timing, because everything follows from it. The play-off draw is on 4 August. The third qualifying round is played on 6 and 13 August. The draw happens BEFORE the ties are decided, so UEFA doesn't seed clubs — it seeds slots. The regulations price those slots with two simple rules: 1. A slot filled by the WINNER of a Conference League Q3 tie is priced at the HIGHER coefficient of the two clubs in the tie. 2. A slot filled by the LOSER of a Europa League Q3 tie (losers drop into this round) is priced at the LOWER coefficient of the two clubs — because at draw time either of them could be the one who falls. Clubs entering directly at the play-off are priced at their own coefficient, or 20% of their association's coefficient if that's higher. The main-path pot has exactly 38 slots: 5 direct entrants, 26 Conference League Q3 winner slots, and 7 Europa League Q3 loser slots. The top 19 are seeded. Getafe enter directly. They have no European points in the current five-season window, so they carry the Spain floor: 19.409. Now count every slot priced above that. There are exactly nineteen: - Atalanta, direct entrant, 84.000 - Braga vs Dinamo Minsk, winner slot, priced at Braga's 63.750 - Ajax vs Shelbourne, winner slot, Ajax's 58.250 - Freiburg, direct entrant, 56.500 - Monaco, direct entrant, 56.000 - Debrecen vs Copenhagen, winner slot, Copenhagen's 54.375 - Bohemians vs Midtjylland, winner slot, Midtjylland's 48.250 - Dynamo Kyiv vs Qarabag, winner slot, priced at Qarabag's 42.750 — even if Kyiv are the likelier winner, the slot carries the pair's higher coefficient - IFK Goteborg vs Gent, winner slot, Gent's 39.000 — the tie our original post was about - PAOK vs Anderlecht (Europa League), loser slot, priced at Anderlecht's 30.750, the lower of the pair - Paide vs Rapid Wien, winner slot, Rapid's 29.750 - Panathinaikos vs CSKA 1948, winner slot, Panathinaikos' 29.250 - Pafos vs Red Bull Salzburg (Europa League), loser slot, Pafos' 24.125 - Brighton, direct entrant, 23.903 - Rakow vs Hammarby, winner slot, Rakow's 22.250 - Partizan vs Tobol, winner slot, Partizan's 22.000 - Jagiellonia vs Rangers (Europa League), loser slot, Jagiellonia's 22.000 - Lugano vs NSI/Koper, winner slot, Lugano's 21.250 — true whichever opponent comes through - Sheriff Tiraspol vs St. Gallen, winner slot, Sheriff's 20.000 Nineteen slots, every single one priced at 20.000 or above. Getafe's 19.409 is the twentieth number in the pot. The next slot down (Rijeka vs Ilves, 18.625) confirms exactly where the line falls. Getafe miss seeding by 0.591 — the first club out. So why do other simulators show Getafe seeded? Our best guess: they rank the projected QUALIFIERS by their own coefficients instead of pricing the slots the way UEFA actually does. Do it that way and St. Gallen (6.940), Hammarby (6.000) and Dynamo Kyiv (17.500) all rank below Getafe, who comes out comfortably seeded. But that's not how an undrawn slot is priced. UEFA applied exactly this logic in the Q3 draw ten days ago, in the other direction: Qarabag, coefficient 42.750, were unseeded against Dynamo Kyiv, 17.500, because their slot had been priced at the LOWER coefficient of an undecided tie. Same rulebook, same principle, and it cuts against intuition both times. And our original post? It holds up too. Had Gent lost to LNZ Cherkasy tonight, the Goteborg side of that slot would have priced it far below 19.409, only eighteen slots would have sat above Getafe, and they'd have been seeded. Gent went through, and that door closed. We'll say it plainly: if UEFA's official pots on 4 August prove us wrong, we'll post that just as loudly. But we checked every number twice, against the regulations, and we're confident. Being small doesn't mean being wrong — it just means you have to show your work. 🇪🇺🔵 La imagen que tanto duele. El Getafe NO será cabeza de serie en el sorteo de la Conference League tras la victoria del Gent. El lunes afrontará un sorteo complicado con varios cocos. Antes del mismo, UEFA hace grupos de 9-10 equipos y se acotarán a 4-5 los posibles rivales.

@Bordalismoo Sí, hacen 4 grupos con 4-5 cabezas de serie y otros 4-5 que no lo son. De ahí sale el rival. En los últimos dos años han separado en los grupos a los equipos de las grandes ligas. Si hacen lo mismo, evitaríamos a varios aunque tendremos un 20-30% de que toque uno de ellos.

😅🔵 Para que os hagáis una idea, este fue el sorteo del playoff de la Conference League de la temporada pasada. El Getafe hubiera sido el 9º equipo con más coeficiente; ahora, el 20º. A este club nunca le han regalado nada y no iba a ser ahora. A pelear con el rival que venga…

@Bordalismoo Los que caen de UEL al sorteo del playoff de la Conference lo hacen con el coeficiente del equipo que tiene menos. El CSKA Sofía (que tiene 6.000) juega contra Dinamo Kiev. Creo que esa es la clave.
