@mikecallaghan@cursor_ai ChatGPT taught me a new word “locus.” I had to look it up. It’s generally used in the phrase “locus of control.” Pretty subtle, but cool concept related to a “shift in perspective.”
.@cursor_ai just gave me a new term I wasn't familiar with: Principle of Minimal Blast Radius
💻Display bugs → fix in display layer
💽Data bugs → fix in data layer
❌Never fix a UI problem by changing the data model
❌Never add stored fields for values derivable from existing data.
@dhh just dropped in from a mature NixOS laptop. I do have to say I love Omarchy. Kudos, it’s very close to my Flakes setup in design. I felt right at home, even better. Omarchy really took that old feel I had to a really polished one! OmNIXy when? 🖤
@walkingriver Omarchy is still SUPER cool to check out. And I still do love NixOS. Even checking Omarchy out in something like UTM would be a good time. Or a personal laptop!
@_AndrewMortimer I’m still on macOS for the foreseeable future because I’m too accustomed to the tight hardware integration between the MacBook, iPhone, and iPad.

I'm excited to take on a new role as Principal Engineer at @DICKS Sporting Goods! It's not often that you get to combine two things you love for work, such as sports and tech 🏀👨🏿💻🥳
Anecdotal, but it seems to me that big tech isn't very interested in supporting parents or families. Microsoft's screentime and family software is pretty garbage as well. Tons of errors, incorrect app state, service outages, misreporting of data, obvious missing features, inconsistent notifications, etc. So many products on the market seem not to even consider parent/family scenarios at all.
The sad thing about the bugs is (and I can say this pretty confidently after working at MS twice now) that the engineers probably know about all the issues and even how to fix them but are being prevented from doing so by middle management who doesn't see "value" in that work.
Apple's family Screentime reporting software had been useable trash for years and years. I've literally never had it work properly. It glitches jumping between days. It refuses to load data. There's weird layout issues. It's the worst software I can think of. How could a company so wealthy produce this?
