If I wasn't clear, I apologize and allow me to make it clear there is no way shape or form do I suggest eliminating the possibility to gray shirt. In regards to the research, I'd like to think I have a good handle on that when it comes to this topic. To obtain an exact list of wrestlers who had to take a grayshirt to gain admission to Cornell would take far longer than 20 minutes. The accuracy of any such list would depend entirely on who is willing to share that information. That's not something most people are inclined to disclose. Admissions details and academic records are protected under FERPA, and teams or schools generally do not publish statements like, "this athlete needed X pathway for admission. Many of the greats who took this route prior to 2021 were never my concern. Before 2021, wrestlers grayshirted with little to no doubt that their commitment remained secure. As fans, we were confident those athletes would be wearing a Cornell singlet the following year. I'm not naïve to the fact that this system has benefited—and will continue to benefit—some wrestlers who otherwise would not gain admission. That's not what I'm arguing against, nor am I suggesting the process be eliminated. My concern is its increased use as a redshirt or roster-management tool rather than as an admissions pathway. Unless you're dealing with a true blue-chip recruit who needs this route for entrance, I'd stay far away from using it. Window shoppers lurk, beware!

The worst idea Cornell could implement is eliminating the grey shirt/TC3 year. Your idea eliminates one of Cornell's great advantages over other Ivy League schools. From an admissions standpoint, you don't want to think about who Cornell doesn't get on their team without it. Do 20 minutes of research and see what % ofCornell greats have utilized it.

What a kick in the balls. To lose a lifetime 125-pounder of that caliber. It’s Sergio Vega all over again. He trains with Cornell and Vito all summer, only to jet—after Cornell stuck by him and his family through all the turmoil. Please stop greyshirting all these high-talent wrestlers. We had eight top-60 Big Board recruits from the 2025 class greyshirt this year. I said from the get-go: that’s too much time not competing for the “C,” just waiting to be snagged by someone else. I’ll admit, while I expected greyshirting this entire class to backfire, I did not expect Knox to be the one to bail. Vega and Knox… the only question that remains is: how many individual NCAA titles have exited Ithaca in the past two years? Tell you what—you’d better be re-recruiting the Cortez brothers (Isaiah, who lost to Davino in SV this year), Perentin, Jude Correa, Rocco Dellagatta, Eli Diakomihalis, and DeJesus on a daily basis. And I don’t feel the least bit comfortable knowing that Jeter resides in Oklahoma.

@USMC_3 @field253620 That’s not bias but we don’t use freestyle results in the college rankings because they don’t always align. For instance, Connor Mirasola teched Joey Novak the last time they wrestled in freestyle. Just last week, Novak majored Mirasola in folkstyle. That’s 1 example of 1,000
