The buildup of lipid-rich waste products, called drusen, in the eye is an early sign of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). BrightFocus Macular Degeneration Research-funded scientist Neetu Kushwah, PhD, is studying how the malfunctioning of lipid processing in the eye drives inflammation and AMD. Her research focuses on a specific lipid-sensing receptor called RORa that could be a valuable new therapeutic target. Find out more: bit.ly/47FIbie #Science #Research #VisionLoss

For decades, Alzheimer's disease treatment meant managing symptoms. That's changing. Leqembi and Kisunla are the first FDA-approved therapies to slow Alzheimer's progression. The evidence is clear: earlier intervention matters. People who begin treatment before significant cognitive or functional decline see the greatest benefit. Learn how these therapies work, who qualifies, and what the risks and benefits really look like. To watch the full episode or register to watch future episodes, visit: bit.ly/4awUuzt.

Over a decade ago, BrightFocus Foundation grant recipient, Dr. Ilyas Washington acted on an unconventional hunch that enriched vitamin A could stop toxic buildup in the eye, a hallmark of macular degeneration. His research led to an oral pill that is now in clinical trials showing promise for slowing vision loss in rare and age-related forms of macular degeneration. Early-stage research funding is how we turn scientific hunches into breakthroughs that preserve sight. Explore the research. ↘️ brightfocus.org/news/early-res…
