The Pound is softer, yields are higher on the Josh Simons/ Burnham news. This is not trying to “constrain democratic choice” this is rational repricing of expectations for more Gilt issuance, and more inflation.
Solid growth of 0.6% in UK economy at start of year Jan-March, even taking in the first month of Iran War. Compares well internationally… some clear resilience shown here… though there has been a pattern of strong starts to years which then fade.

Excl: As Keir Starmer’s premiership is on the precipice, MPs pivotal in selecting Labour’s next leader will tomorrow call for reform to the fiscal framework - once existing fiscal rules have been met - and increasing taxes on wealth as part of a radical overhaul of the party’s economic strategy. The powerful soft-left Tribune group, whose members will be powerbrokers in replacing Starmer, propose stripping the Treasury of responsibility for economic growth and scrapping stamp duty as part of an effective manifesto for the prime minister’s replacement. Louise Haigh, the former transport secretary who heads up Tribune has called for Starmer to step down.
