Last week, I delivered my maiden speech. Besides expounding the joys of Buckingham & Bletchley, I recognised those who'd helped me - but most importantly told our young people that regardless of your background, Britain is still a country where you can make it if you work hard.

@_CallumAnderson @theobertram If an event were put on in parliament explaining capital markets, at the optimal time, what would be your best guess for the number of lLabour MPs that would attend? My guess not many, there's comfort for them in not having their priors challenged.

There are very few Labour MPs who worked in the city. That's typically not their professional or social circle. So the understanding of the people who hold our debt and why they make decisions is not good. But the reverse is also true of city folks understanding Labour MPs.

The Pound is softer, yields are higher on the Josh Simons/ Burnham news. This is not trying to “constrain democratic choice” this is rational repricing of expectations for more Gilt issuance, and more inflation.

I welcome the NEC’s decision to allow @AndyBurnhamGM to stand as our @UKLabour candidate in the upcoming Makerfield by-election. Our party - and our Government - must draw on every talent at our disposal if we are to change Britain, deliver for working people, and beat Reform.

@RachelReevesMP’s economic plan raise investment & cut the deficit is working. Fastest GDP per capita growth in four years and the fastest in the G7. All positive signs given the geoeconomic & geopolitical uncertainty. Lots to do, but Britain is moving in the right direction.
Faisal Islam@faisalislam

Solid growth of 0.6% in UK economy at start of year Jan-March, even taking in the first month of Iran War. Compares well internationally… some clear resilience shown here… though there has been a pattern of strong starts to years which then fade.

EXCLUSIVE from @fintan_03 and @benellery Zack Polanski has admitted he did not vote in last week’s local elections The Green Party leader had previously indicated through a spokesman that he had cast a postal vote in Hackney before spending polling day in Wales, and had publicly told the east London borough’s mayoral candidate: “You have my vote” However, after inquiries by The Times, the party confirmed on Thursday that he had in fact not registered to vote in the elections because of fears for his safety Polanski had pledged his support to Zoë Garbett, the Green candidate for Hackney mayor, telling her “you have my vote” in a campaign video released on May 3 “One consequence of the heightened intrusion and safety risk he faces was that Zack did not register to vote in the most recent local elections,” a spokesman said The party said Polanski had faced “extreme and distressing press intrusion” since becoming leader, including “antisemitic cartoons” and journalists “doorstepping family members”, and was now in discussions with police and local authorities about registering anonymously thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Great to meet Blair McDougall today to make the case for an additional eastern entrance at Bletchley station. I told him I'm determined to secure the investment needed to unlock jobs and transform our town centre. In fact, I even have a petition on it! survey.labour.org.uk/bletchleyeaste…

Today’s strong growth figures show the Government has the right economic plan. The choices I have made as Chancellor mean our economy is in a stronger position as we deal with the costs of the war in Iran. Now is not the time to put our economic stability at risk.

It was a pleasure to join friends at @savechildrenuk to mark the scrapping of the two-child limit. Thanks to their campaigning we will transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of children. This is the difference a Labour government can make.

Brilliant, brilliant speech from Naz Shah. This whole thing has the vibe of the two sides in World War One playing football on Christmas Day. Or the dinner party on the last night of the Traitors. But it feels like the Labour party has downed tools to come together like a family before it all gets divided again in a few hours. She reminded them of what they all have in common.

Seems to me we need to concentrate on building on (and going even further) progressive, centre-left supply-side reform that this government has already started e.g. AI Opps Plan, planning reform, industrial strategy, and steering towards a pragmatic energy policy. ENDS

I'll read the Tribune pamphlet with interest tomorrow. While policy debate is healthy, I'd counsel real caution re: the fiscal rules... The Chancellor has already amended the UK's fiscal framework to unlock extra £120bn of public investment over this Parliament ... 1/x
Geri Scott@Geri_E_L_Scott

Excl: As Keir Starmer’s premiership is on the precipice, MPs pivotal in selecting Labour’s next leader will tomorrow call for reform to the fiscal framework - once existing fiscal rules have been met - and increasing taxes on wealth as part of a radical overhaul of the party’s economic strategy. The powerful soft-left Tribune group, whose members will be powerbrokers in replacing Starmer, propose stripping the Treasury of responsibility for economic growth and scrapping stamp duty as part of an effective manifesto for the prime minister’s replacement. Louise Haigh, the former transport secretary who heads up Tribune has called for Starmer to step down. Full reforms will be set out in a pamphlet released tomorrow. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar… Separately, the Labour Growth Group will also hold the launch for its own report, which was released this morning. Its chair Chris Curtis today also called for Starmer to resign. I covered the joint Haigh/Curtis intervention here last month 👇 thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar… The LGG report was published this morning here 👇 labourgrowth.co.uk
