@_ChemKat Gorgeous! I used to alkylate n-pyridylterpyridine ruthenium complexes [Ru(pytpy)2]2+ + Cl-alkyl -> [Ru(alklypytpy)2]4+ +2Cl-
The non-alkylated was orange, the mono-alkylated was pink and the bis-alkylated was purple. It was such a beautiful column :D

@firouzi_nima It’s actually just a simple methylation reaction with iodomethane! The purple is the iodine byproduct, my product is in the yellow stuff.

@DanHarki No, it's the synthesis I've been working on (and failing repeatedly) for six months! The reaction I showed in group meeting this week worked, so I have to scale up to get more material to finish.
