@bmwhocking @lukechristensen Isn't one of the issues with the current bridge, that the core structure is at risk from vehicles blown around being knocked into them? Ie what happened with that truck a few years ago? Surely a way to lower that risk on a new bridge

@lukechristensen Both, tbf NZTA’s issue isn’t so much the bridge itself. It is the vehicles on it being pushed around, hard to fix with a 2nd bridge.

@Billyp444__ @peter_tulip lul what? No ones being forced to live in an apartment, and also why would you want to force people people to live in single family homes by only allowing that type? Apartments are great! Enabling different typologies is great!

@peter_tulip @_ConnorSharp Their opposition is that you have downgraded their quality of life by making them live in an apartment as opposed to a house. Economics doesn’t make such value judgements, it just views all of these as “units of housing” but a human can! (And does!) 2/2

It's amazing the extent NIMBYs will go to prevent new housing being built. Like you want to set on fire $100k in a court battle to try and get rid of an acclaimed economist from an independent panel, because he believes in supply and demand? Go find a better hobby omfg

Maybe we shouldnt go forward with building what would be the most expensive road ever built in New Zealand - Warkworth to Te Hana A road that that NZTA can't even justify through their own business case work! Turn it into something practical @cjsbishop 1news.co.nz/2026/05/14/fue…

Remember when Simeon Brown and Cabinet signed off a rule, where if speed limits were lowered because of schools, they had to be increased back to unsafe levels? And this resulted in over a 1000 roads in Auckland having speeds increased, including outside a school for the blind?

Christopher Luxon has used his first pre-budget speech to tell businesses he will always pick "social stability" over high migration - even if it hurts their bottom lines. He's also revealed a $300m reduction in the operating allowance: thepost.co.nz/politics/36100…

At the budget, I’ll bet pensioners get a decent rise & everything else, especially spending involving younger kiwis gets cuts. If we want NZ to succeed; we need to invest in young people. The smartest person plants a tree they will never sit under. rnz.co.nz/news/political…

@sands659 Yeah! It's like lets say the govt changes later this year, and all the work gets thrown out? It's the annoying thing about having the whole Future for Local Government being ignored, theres lots of good stuff in here that could have been progressed. dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf…

@_ConnorSharp I hope labour will get on board with that kind of thing. Replacing development contributions with say half of gst revenue could be a good start.
