I'm super excited to announce that I am now Manager of Government Relations at Advancing American Freedom! The conservative movement lives here, and now, so do I.

@N0tAnthonyDavis Fewer now, because unions failed in their well funded attempt to get an anti-immigration enforcement candidate elected president in 2024

“Data centers must be built with local union labor” translates to “you must pay a bribe to me and my friends.” ~90% of construction workers are not unionized, but those who are can be forced in Michigan to pay dues that wind up in Dem campaign funds. Every left wing affordability proposal is undermined by their insistence on paying off interest groups at every turn.
Team McMorrow@TeamMcMorrow

.@MalloryMcMorrow's plan on data centers: Data center companies, not Michigan families, pay for their own energy and grid upgrades – so rates don't go up. Data centers can't harm our water, air, or environment. Data centers pay their fair share in taxes to fund our schools, roads, and communities. Data centers are built with local union labor.

This is why we must hold the line against slopulism in housing policy. At first Warren's position was "investors can build as many apartment buildings as they want, they just can't build single-family homes to rent" Now she is sending menacing letters to institutional investors who build multi-family apartments and manufactured housing.

@GreenPlusAnE Using a dash of populist rhetoric to highlight a real problem and market a substantive solution is not slop. Telling an “us versus them” story that is not even true, to justify a policy that hurts “us” more than anyone, is slopulism.

The Warrenite critique of the abundance world has never seemed to be about policy. It's all about hating the wrong people. And that's just a veneer on status quo politics protecting a set of incumbents -- just their incumbents.
Jerusalem@JerusalemDemsas

Warren seems like a uniquely bad actor in the housing policymaking space. A hostility towards negotiation and a reluctance to accept that there could be any sort of thing as good faith disagreement. Good on Schatz for standing strong here.

“Three new groups – the America First Policy Institute, American Compass and Advancing American Freedom – have formed since 2020… The battle for lasting influence is on, and who ends up on top in this new realignment of conservative think tanks will not only determine who is most influential in Trump’s second term but could also mold the shape of conservative policy in the post-Trump era.”

President Trump and VP @JDVance promised never to forget the people of East Palestine after the Democrats abandoned them. Now Mike Pence’s new group is pushing for their betrayal. Is this surprising to literally anyone? Who listens to these people? Anyone?

What started as a wrongheaded but seemingly inconsequential call to ban the ~1% of home purchases made by big investment firms quickly spiraled into an effective ban on build-to-rent housing. We need a broken windows approach to policing slopulism, I argue in @NRO:

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing is road to nowhere. “Restrictions on private investment into single-family rental housing…will ultimately make housing less affordable, and their inclusion marks a growing trend of ill-considered, knee-jerk populism.” @AmericanFreedom’s @_JaceWhite explains in @NRO

Populism helped derail what could have been real progress on housing reform. Instead of tackling the policies driving up costs, the “ROAD to Housing Act” risks becoming the road to nowhere. AAF’s @_JaceWhite, in his inaugural piece w/ AAF, explains why a smart housing agenda should focus on removing barriers to building and lowering costs for American families.

I got a lot of pushback for "simping for private equity" when I expressed skepticism about the institutional investor angle to housing. Yes, "sometimes you gotta do a little populism to unlock the bigger wins" - but sometimes you only get the slopulism without anything else
Alec Stapp@AlecStapp

The moral panic over institutional investors owning single-family homes is peak slopulism. Banning institutional investors from owning homes will make the housing crisis worse, not better. But blaming Wall Street for our problems polls well, so politicians dish out the slop.
