@_akhaliq Holy hell, we went from OpenAI being effectively the only player in the LLM game to "you can run GPT-3 on a gaming graphics card" in like 2 weeks

On March 27 we're launching the Pro2 (Prototype to Production) network - a place for academics and industrials to come together to address the challenges of scaling up (hardware) prototypes. If you can't make the launch, but want to get involved, let me know!

EMERGE is an interactive, physically dynamic bar chart. Its 10×10 grid of illuminated vertically actuating rods encodes values similar to traditional bar charts. Read about the iterative+evolving design process in our new book! @_kiwijason @_JohnHardy @_faisaltaher @John_E_Vidler

At OpenAI a lot of our work aims to align language models like ChatGPT with human preferences. But this could become much harder once models can act coherently over long timeframes and exploit human fallibility to get more reward. 📜Paper: arxiv.org/abs/2209.00626 🧵Thread:

Differential geometry in daily life: these containers take up a lot of space in my recycling. Rather than try flattening them by brute force, I know I can simply cut through four “cone singularities.” More on cone singularities: cs.cmu.edu/~kmcrane/Proje… youtu.be/4YHmaoQoT9s

We held a Halloween party at our house on Saturday with the theme: "Night of a Thousand Gandalfs". I made a staff that lit up using a switch in the base and a little 3D printed jewel in the top. Yes, we are dorks.

Tested the NeRF-to-Model Target pipeline with @LumaLabsAI. Quite the game changer for industrial, shiny targets. From scan to model target in minutes, without powder coating nor projected laser grid to help with reconstruction.

thrilled our preliminary research on #generativeai in #vr was accepted into #neurips2022 here is a bare-bones "holodeck" #3d implementation real-time in #unity. spoken user commands are compiled at runtime. 3d objects are created, loaded and manipulated via @openai's gpt-3.

Any Spacemouse users out there? I've been using one for five years now, but I can pan, rotate and zoom on the mouse in my right hand, and now taking my left hand off the keyboard seems counter-intuitive. Anyone else in the same boat? #Opinion #design #FreeCAD @FreeCADNews

Compared to regular CNC work, using assisted hand tools retains the feeling of "creating something with your hands", and provides abilities that would not exist without these tools. It's utterly exciting to see a paper turn into such a wonderful product.

Ten years ago Rivers et al. published one of my favourite papers: "Position-Correcting Tools for 2D Digital Fabrication" [1]. Five years later they turned it into a product: the @shapertools Origin. Today, I finally got my hands on this wonderful machine. 🧵

Models in engineering & science have *way* more complexity in geometry/materials than what conventional solvers can handle. But imagine if simulation was like Monte Carlo rendering: just load up a complex model and hit "go"; don't worry about meshing, basis functions, etc. [1/n]
