This film means a lot to me. My favorite Shakespeare comedy, told in a balletic approach by one of the greatest to ever do it. The greatest argument for creative liberties with source material ever realized, the only way it could be better is if it used music from the ballet.

The change was definitely for the better and lead to a far more engaging and interesting experience. Like, the comedic absurdity made the sadness underneath it all the more impactful. Straight horror wouldn’t have hit as hard because you end up expecting all of the chaos.

The original screenplay for THE TRUMAN SHOW was not a comedy. It was a scary, paranoid, disturbing film. We the audience do not know he's being filmed, until he realizes it. When they cast Jim Carrey, they had to make it more light and funny. The original version probably wouldn't have done as well.

I say this as someone who loves LGBT people: y’all need a thicker skin. For example, Buffalo Bill isn’t a bad person because he’s trans. He’s a bad person because he murders women and skins them alive.

Silence of the lambs literally went out of its way to explain that Buffalo Bill wasn't actually trans either and the book had a sex change clinic that was worried about their patience being put at risk because of it.
