Mediators have delivered a formal proposal to Hamas calling for the “complete handover” and “full decommissioning” of all weapons in Gaza, a senior U.S. official told NPR.
🔹 The plan, reportedly presented in Cairo last week, would require Hamas and all armed groups to give up their weapons to a new governing authority, with officials saying acceptance would unlock large-scale reconstruction of Gaza.
🔹 NPR cited an anonymous Hamas official as describing the proposal as a “take it or leave it” offer and said the group would assess developments in the Iran war before responding.
🔹 Nickolay Mladenov, High Rep. for the Board of Peace and deeply involved in the talks, said the framework requires “one clear choice: full decommissioning by Hamas and every armed group, with no exceptions.”
The proposal is part of Trump’s “Board of Peace” initiative, which aims to demilitarize Gaza, deploy a multinational force, and oversee Israeli withdrawal, though efforts have stalled amid the US-Israeli war with Iran.
