Only God knows the toll this has taken on Frank Oliver Kpodo and his family. To be publicly linked to GHS427 million isn’t a minor slip but a reputational damage at scale. This is exactly why the media’s gatekeeping role matters. Accuracy isn’t a luxury and verification isn’t optional because once a story is out, the damage travels faster than the correction. You @fourthestategh owe Frank Kpodo a great deal of apology for the stress you’ve put him through. Hiding behind a statement from the audit service is cowardice. Apologise to the man, take down the stories from your page! Your role as a gate keeper isn’t just about shaming people but protecting their well being.
The Fourth Estate@fourthestategh

Following The Fourth Estate’s publication on the latest Auditor-General report on nationwide payroll irregularities, the Audit Service now says the GHS427 million attributed to Mr Frank Oliver Kpodo, a former Director of Procurement at the Ministry of Defence was a transpositional error. According to a statement issued by the Service and signed by its Right to Information Officer, Frederich Lokko, the actual figure in Mr Kpodo’s name is GHS422,920.01. According to the Audit Service, it made an error in attributing the figure to Mr Kpodo. “We offer our most sincere and unreserved apologies to Mr. Frank Oliver Kpodo for the distress and unwarranted public scrutiny this error may have caused,” the statement said. “We further extend our apologies to the Government and people of Ghana, and the Controller and Accountant-General for the transpositional error noted above.” The Audit Service further explained that the figure originally attributed to Mr. Kpodo should rather have been in the name of the Ministry of Education. “We wish to state that, the amount attributed to Mr Kpodo above was due to transpositional error. The GHC427,995,661.40 relates to the Ministry of Education in respect of 3,476 unaccounted staff during the payroll audit,” the statement said. Also, the Audit Service produced a corrected table of 34 Ministries and Departments that could not account for over GHS800 million paid to their staff. In the corrected list, The Fourth Estate has found that the Audit Service made several “transpositional” errors in the original report, which has been submitted to parliament. Figures attributed to 27 of the 34 Ministries and Departments in the original report have been changed. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department says it is impossible for any government employee to receive unearned salaries. Read more: tinyurl.com/mr4xettz

David Ornstein on #mufc’s search for a permanent head coach: “The way things are going, I don't see United picking the likes of Iraola, Glasner or Silva ahead of Carrick - although if they miss out on the Champions League, I assume they would all come into play. That's why we'll have to be a bit patient. I hear United have completed all of their background work and no doubt spoken to representatives, although I'm told no interviews with candidates have taken place yet; if they had we would probably have heard whispers at the very least. It's a huge call for United and their sporting director Jason Wilcox - he's leading the process and will make a recommendation to the board. As things stands, it might feel like Carrick is in pole position... however nothing has been decided and therefore it could, of course, end differently.” [@TheAthleticFC]

Minister for Health says the following will happen under the Free Primary Health Care Programme - A person in a community will go to their nearest CHPS compound or health centre or polyclinic. -They can walk in, or they may be reached through community outreach. -A health worker may even visit them at home. -At the facility, they will not only be treated for immediate concerns but also routinely screened for conditions that often go undetected. -If the condition is simple, it will be managed at that level. If it requires more attention, the patient will be referred to a health centre or polyclinic. -At the health centre, more services will be available, including basic laboratory tests, maternity care, and minor procedures. - If further care is needed, the patient will move to the next level. And importantly, after treatment, the patient is referred back to the community level for follow-up and continued care. -This is a system that is connected, continuous, and people-centered. #GovernmentAccountabilitySeries.
