We have today taken a number of steps to tackle the threat posed by Iran’s proxy groups and criminal networks.
The first duty of this government is to protect the British people and today’s action sends a clear message to Iran and those who do its bidding.

The Iranian regime is the world’s primary sponsor of terror abroad. It threatens the safety and security of the British people, including our Jewish community here at home.
I welcome the Government's decision to fulfil it’s promise and designate the IRGC as a threat to the UK.

For the past year, I've campaigned for powers to tackle hostile state entities, a cause @_LFI has long championed.
The National Security (State Threats) Act is now law.
The Government must use it to designate the IRGC without delay.
Home Office@ukhomeoffice
The National Security (State Threats) Act has received Royal Assent - giving police and intelligence agencies stronger powers to tackle threats from foreign states. Those who support, assist or work for foreign state-backed groups could now face up to 14 years in prison.
