@fabulavancouver Fentanyl supply is shifting mostly due to border closures and lab busts, affecting what’s on the street. Fent mixed with sedatives/tranq paradoxically increases survival users are heavily sedated, use less often, still OD but not fatal. There’s a medical paper on this.

Hostile service providers who refused to talk to the media or concerned citizens. 1.7% of people referred to treatment. No data on how many went.

San Francisco had a supervised consumption site for 11 months in 2023. It destroyed the Mid Market neighborhood and caused a grocery store across the street to close because it got shoplifted to death. Then, the providers lied about efficacy after spending $23 million on it.

@KeithNHumphreys True here is one more not op-ed but fact: nearly 100 of them were open in Canada out of 200 worldwide. BC alone now has 58 sites and has seen more OD deaths/rate than any U.S. state on the West Coast, with not a single one running in those states.

A researcher who advised the BC government on addiction for 20+ years revealed at health committee that both officials used their government positions to push safe supply and decriminalization before building companies around those same policies. Mark Tyndall launched MySafe Society while still serving as a senior government official. The company installed vending machines that dispensed opioids to drug users. The federal government gave them over $3.5 million in taxpayer dollars to do it. Perry Kendall founded Fair Price Pharma while serving as executive director of the government-funded BC Centre on Substance Use. The company's goal was to produce a domestic supply of injectable heroin. When I started asking questions, the Liberals tried to shut me down.

Because of the complexities of municipal taxes, the City does not incur a tax loss. It is also the same in the case of "private" schools, but that is for another day

Anything except taking responsibility. The whole persona becomes about shifting the blame onto everything else.
