No one better to debate the notorious Build vs Buy dilemma, than with the legendary @eyalniv from Pitango.
This is no ordinary time, as GenAI raises questions of scale and sophistication we haven’t seen before. One thing is certain: every founder in the space needs to ask this question every day.

Don't waste your time searching for that movie you're trying to recall on @IMDb. It may not even exist. 🍿
English

@jpmorgenthal @JamesMaguire It’s a great video :) it’s a tangible and immediate disruptor…left Stanford to pursue a solution to this issue, working with professors from Stanford and MIT. Now VC backed with a great team and technology that works, and a big road ahead :)

Q3. What are the biggest threats posed to companies by generative AI here in mid 2023? Compliance, privacy, copyright? #eWEEKchat
English

@JamesMaguire Thank you @JamesMaguire for the great moderation. Awesome to be here with you all.
English

Thanks all! This has been another excellent #eWEEKchat. Serious insight today – great to see this monthly gathering. Stay tuned for next month’s chat!
English

@elastic @JamesMaguire Huge +1. we're going to see a reset in the way that companies show and prove their value. Will be some heartbreaks, and some great winners. #eweekchat
English

@JamesMaguire A9: Think of gen AI as a re-platforming event. It’s going to shake up the winners and losers in the entire tech industry. The sooner you recognize and act on this, the more likely you are to be one of the winners. – Ken Exner, CPO. #eweekchat
English

Q9. Last question, a final “Big Thought”: what else should managers/buyers/providers be aware of about generative AI? #eWEEKchat
English

@JamesMaguire A9: while there's lots of excitement, there's also a lot of noise. It's hard to distinguish what's great for an organization and what can drive significant distractions. This requires proper evaluation, adoption metrics and constant verification of outputs. #eweekchat
English

@chazlever @JamesMaguire Mindset shift to embracement of unknown and a growing curiosity for what's possible! #eweekchat
English
@JamesMaguire A8: Now that AI has become more mainstream, there are a lot of unknowns. Don’t ignore it and hope it goes away. Embrace it and put in the work into implementing thoughtful corporate policies now. Empower your employees to use it safely and become more productive! (1/n) #eweekchat
English

Q8. Also forward-looking: Your best advice to help companies prepare for the (wildly) unpredictable future of artificial intelligence? #eWEEKchat
English

@ramvzz love the baby steps. not intuitive given the constant sense of urgency. +1. #eweekchat
English

A8. Baby steps. Don’t start with the ‘family jewels’ as your first deployment. Your people need to build up an understanding of applicability, alignment and steering LLMs which will take time. #eWEEKchat.
English

@AndiMann rotate - iterate - innovate - and again
I'd add, make adoption a key strategy to see what sticks and what's noise #eweekchat
English

@JamesMaguire A8: dedicated task force to continuously engage with the innovation. experiment with open-source techniques. make this a regular conversation piece amongst decision-makers. perhaps most importantly: ask your kids what's new... #eweekchat
English

@zkerravala Wondering if we'll see emerging datasets for fairness in different disciplines and domains. The AI community hasn't been too equipped to deal with this yet, and not sure how much longer we can sustain without proper benchmarking. #eweekchat
English

A7. #EweekChat Good Q. One big issue is still bias and fairness. Ensuring that generative AI models generate content that is free from bias and promotes fairness is an ongoing challenge.
English

@ramvzz Huge and relevant Q. An audit that will look differently in every country, but the company's technological impact is global. Interesting... #eweekchat
English

A7. Think about a future government audit of your AI-driven decisions; would they hold up for privacy and fairness? #eWEEKchat
English

@JamesMaguire A7 information integrity is going to become a larger and larger issue. Distinguishing what's authentic and synthetic may make it difficult for decision-making processes. For example: banking, judicial, elections, etc. #eweekchat
English

Q7. Let's look ahead: what enduring challenges will generative AI continue to pose to companies in the future? #eWEEKchat
English

@PhilipAWCooper @elastic @JamesMaguire Yes! This is the time to shine. Instead of guardrails, the opportunity is to enable and empower. But safely and productively. #eweekchat
English

Q5. Specifically, your advice for generative AI guidelines for employees? #eWEEKchat
English

@chazlever @JamesMaguire +1. We're at the augmentation phase. Replacement may come later, but it's too early :)
English
@JamesMaguire A6: These technologies are promising but they’re far from perfect right now. Use gen AI to augment humans and don’t simply try to replace them! (2/2) #eweekchat
English

Q6. On the upside, how can companies best harness the potential of generative AI for competitive advantage? #eWEEKchat
English

A6: gen AI is leveling the playing field and is making a lot of the formerly expensive operations, a non-issue. Early adopters can make quick use of this to gain leverage over their competitors who are still using old techniques, doubling down on the mission-critical aspects. #eweekchat
English

@elastic @JamesMaguire Beautifully written. Distinguishing the professional use-cases from experimentation. These tools are powerhouses for innovation and creative thinking. Perhaps there needs to be clear distinctions in the tools, with clear filters by the CTO and CIO. #eweekchat
English

@JamesMaguire A5: Companies absolutely need guidelines to ensure employees aren’t posting private information into LLMs, but I believe the more intriguing guidelines are ones that promote employee experimentation + ideation on how gen AI can improve your business. – Ken Exner, CPO. #eweekchat
English

@zkerravala I think that's too optimistic (relying on behavior of employees). Perhaps more sustainable would be infrastructure guidelines on the platforms, to enforce CIO regulations and filters? #eweekchat
English

A4.#eweekchat - one of the biggest factors is training and education. Companies should provide training and workshops to employees to familiarize them with ChatGPT's capabilities, limitations, and potential use cases.
English

@JamesMaguire A5: I'd like to see something like the linter guidelines that Google and AirBnB brought to fullstack development. And tools to be adopted by the mainstream platforms to enforce these guidelines for employees. Not sure we can expect employees to enact them. #eweekchat
