No one made anyone do anything; the statement was made on purpose and shows a real effort to take responsibility and move on.
We know that not everyone will believe or accept that right away, and that's fine. We want to take action over time instead of talking back and forth online.
We also want to keep things positive. Comments like this can stem from anger, especially since we've worked together before, but we're choosing to move on professionally.

No situation is ever as dire as it might feel or seem in the moment. The mind can multiply anything to become insurmountable. Always grant yourself the space to recover or change your feelings or mind. Even if it's a gradual process with bumps along the way.
If you're stuck in your head then use your body to get out of it. Be active, take a break and get outside and do small things with family and friends. Have fun if that will give you breathing room or challenge yourself if that will tire you and settle your mind.
If some specific emotional or physical pain plagues you then throw yourself into a project that can distract you by channelling your energies or summon up new ones.
Read accounts of people who overcame the most seemingly impossible situations, burdens and challenges. Even if they're fictional! Reignite the spark of inspiration or motivation that lays dormant within you.
Improve your diet and avoid artifical chemicals. Establish a workout routine and increase your fitness. You cannot know the degree to which the body contributes to your state of mind.
Finally, if you have nothing else left, seemingly, then consider acting in service of the closest to you and seeing some satisfaction or joy in making their lives and experiences better. You may be shocked at how this can help turn around the steamboat of your own dark thoughts.
