Floyd Mayweather never wears the same pair of underwear twice. He never wears the same shoes twice. He carries a million dollars cash in a duffel bag for fun. He bought a $4.8 million car with a body that shimmers like diamonds. He paid his chef $1,000 per meal. He had two private jets. The first cost $50 million. The second had gold cup holders, a gold sink, and gold accents throughout. His watch collection included an $18 million piece. He has earned over $1 billion from boxing. More than any fighter in history. And today, a lot of people are asking the same question: is Floyd Mayweather broke? Here's why. The Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch is falling apart. The fight was announced on February 23 for September 19 at the Sphere in Las Vegas, streaming live on Netflix. A professional bout. Mayweather's 50-0 record on the line. Then on March 29, Floyd said it was actually going to be an exhibition. Not a real fight. Pacquiao's team fired back immediately. His promoter pointed to three separate signed contracts for a professional fight and said on Instagram: "Men lie, women lie, executed binding agreements don't." Reports say Mayweather already took a cash advance on his purse. He got paid. Now he wants to change the terms. This isn't the first time the money question has come up. In 2017, the IRS filed a lien against Mayweather for $22.2 million in unpaid taxes from 2015. Another $7.2 million from 2010 was also unresolved. His legal team asked the Tax Court for a reprieve, arguing his assets were "restricted and primarily illiquid." He needed the McGregor fight purse to pay the bill. The man who carried a million dollars in a duffel bag told the IRS he didn't have the liquidity to cover his taxes. Since retiring with the 50-0 record in 2017, Mayweather has done eight exhibition fights. Tenshin Nasukawa. Logan Paul. Deji. John Gotti III. None on his record. All paydays. Each one raised the same question: does he love fighting, or does he need the check? The first Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in 2015 was the biggest event in boxing history. 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. Over $600 million in total revenue. Mayweather took home roughly $250 million. Pacquiao earned about $130 million. 36 minutes of boxing. The full breakdown of how Mayweather spent his way through over a billion dollars, and why the Pacquiao rematch might be more about money than legacy, is here: itsgame7.com/ufc/floyd-mayw… Mayweather leaves his shoes in hotel rooms after wearing them once. He once saw four watches, each $250,000, couldn't decide, and bought all four. He has five Bugattis. Sixteen Rolls-Royces. Thirty-three Mercedes from the same dealership. A $4.8 million Koenigsegg with diamond-coated carbon fiber bodywork. And yet, in 2017, he couldn't pay his taxes without fighting Conor McGregor first. Now the Pacquiao rematch is in limbo because he signed a contract for a professional fight and then decided he'd rather do an exhibition. The theory is simple: he wants the Pacquiao money without risking the zero. But there's another theory. Maybe the exhibitions, the cash advances, and the contract disputes aren't about protecting a legacy. Maybe they're about keeping the lights on in a lifestyle that costs more than most people can imagine. Either way, Floyd Mayweather will wake up tomorrow, put on a brand new pair of underwear, and figure out how to get paid. He always does.
