Tried out the Marathon playtest. My thoughts as a complete extraction noob: • There is a LOT to learn. It takes some time to get a grasp on everything. • Sound design, visuals, and menus are all fire • Gunplay feels amazing (as expected for Bungie) • AI in this game is a menace 😂 • Gameplay is quite unforgiving. This isn't like Arc where everyone is chill lmao. • TTK is pretty quick. Personally I wish it was a tiny bit longer since that's what I prefer. • Progression systems seem really good so far with the contracts and faction quests • Storytelling and worldbuilding is excellent. I would LOVE a new single player campaign in this universe. • As you rank up the Factions, more story unlocks, and better loot becomes available from the vendors • Losing your items sucks but once you rank up, you can just buy most of it back • There are also free sponsored loadouts you can use if you don't want to risk anything • UI and inventory was confusing at first but not that different from other extraction shooters IMO • Runner abilities all seem useful and sets the gameplay apart from other extraction games • Buildcrafting potential is there between the classes, implants, and weapon mods. There's some real depth to the game, which is another thing that sets it apart. This was my first time playing Marathon and I enjoyed what I played. If you're interested at all, I would suggest giving it a try this weekend since it's free. VERY different from Arc Raiders but might give it some competition. Which is a good thing.
