I watched this Nnamdi Azikwe video as Nigeria's president, and I just shook my head. After the Igbo soldiers took over the government of Nigeria, they handed power over to another Igbo man, “Aguyi Ironsi.” Aguyi wasted no time in abolishing the regional governments Nigeria had previously practised, which had led everyone to focus on their own regions. As soon as Aguyi cancelled this, Igbos moved massively to other regions and were quickly placed in top positions. The Northerners, “Hausas,” did not like this. They planned their own counter-coup and began attacking the Igbos, taking power back from them. Meanwhile, the Yorubas remained neutral, focusing on their own region, while the Igbos and Hausas fought each other. Even though they assassinated Yoruba leaders, the Yorubas did not hold it against the Igbos. Hausa forces took over power from the Igbos through a counter-coup. The Igbos, upset, started crying out that they wanted to leave; they wanted Biafra. The same Igbos who had stopped Niger Deltans from leaving when they took over power after the Igbo coup were now crying that they wanted to leave after Hausas had taken over from them. Hausa leaders said NOPE, you are not leaving anywhere; we are in power now. You want the oil money for yourself; that is why you planned the coup. The Igbos declared war. The Hausas responded, “No problem.” They went to war. The Yorubas, uncertain of which side to take, chose to remain in the middle. They are still in Nigeria as a people, along with other tribes. The Igbos lost the war to the Hausas, and they began blaming the Yorubas for not joining them in their blind and selfish war, which they initiated after assassinating Yoruba leaders and colluding with the Hausas to jail a prominent Yoruba leader. After the war, the only ethnic group that stood up for the Igbos was the Yoruba, and Yorubaland played a big role in rebuilding the Igbos as a people. But still, the Igbos would continue to blame the Yorubas for every bad decision they make in life. They misbehave in other people's country, they blame Yorubas, their music doesn’t sell, they blame Yorubas, Things don't go their way, they blame Yorubas. Never take accountability for any of their actions, never, as if Yorubas have to dim their own light for them to shine. But now, Yorubas are saying enough. We are not going to be sticking out our necks for you, and all you give back is hate, jealousy, and bitterness. Currently, the same Igbos are still the ones colluding with the North” Hausas” to work against the government of a Yoruba man while denigrating his ethnicity. And you want Yorubas to keep seeing these people as WHAT? The same people who brought Nigeria into the mess we are in today!
