Watched Matt Fitzpatrick make what I thought was a very good bogey on the par-4 10th hole at Riviera Friday. Then saw he and Garrick Higgo chatting about the difficulty of the hole afterward. Asked him about that exchange after his round. “I just don’t think it’s a fair golf hole, so I’ll just leave it at that.”

Meanwhile, NOAA's own data shows U.S. climate disasters averaged $140 billion/year over the last decade. In 2024 alone: $182.7 billion in damages. 568 lives lost. 27 separate billion-dollar disasters. Since 1980: $2.9 trillion and nearly 17,000 dead. The average time between billion-dollar disasters has gone from 82 days in the 1980s to 12 days in 2023-2024. Oh, and this administration just shut down the NOAA database that tracked those costs. Can't have expensive disasters if you stop counting them. "Making America Hot Again" is costing Americans $140 billion a year. That start-stop button you just bragged about killing? It was free.

@deepdivegolf Who said it was hard hole? It’s different in the way that it’s enclosed by stands and thousands of people.

Hot take: the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale is actually a very ordinary par 3 that has been transformed into a spectacle by brilliant marketing. From a pure architectural standpoint, it’s short, flat, and visually unremarkable. It asks very little beyond a straightforward mid-iron to the centre of the green. There’s no meaningful contouring, no forced decision-making, and no real penalty for conservative play. In isolation, it wouldn’t stand out on any PGA TOUR course. Credit where it’s due. The tournament and the PGA TOUR have created one of the most recognisable images in modern golf without relying on architectural brilliance to do it. So yes, it’s an unforgettable spectacle and compulsory viewing thanks to elite marketing. But as a golf hole, it’s doing far less work than people think. I can’t think of another hole in golf this ordinary that gets anywhere near this level of hype. Can you? #WMPO #WMPhoenixOpen
