Madness of the Heart This heart… it doesn’t arrive gently.. it crashes in like a confession you never rehearsed, sets fire to a quiet chest and calls it love. It finds you in the first glance, in that dangerous pause between two breaths, where everything feels possible and nothing feels safe. It teaches slowly.. not with words, but with heat, with the way your body betrays you when they come close. One moment, you’re laughing like the world was made for you, the next… you’re undone by the absence of their touch, wondering how something so invisible can hold you so completely. This heart steals sleep, replaces it with dreams that feel too real.. visions of skin against skin, of being known without needing to explain, of surrender that feels like power. And when you fall.. you don’t fall carefully. You fall with your eyes closed, trusting a feeling that doesn’t ask for permission. Names blur. Faces fade. But the way they make you feel. That stays.. burning, singing , pulling you closer until you don’t resist anymore. Because the heart… it doesn’t follow rules. It doesn’t listen. It takes everything you guarded, everything you swore you’d protect.. and places it gently in someone else’s hands. And still… you let it. Because somewhere between the chaos and the craving, between the want and the pleasure.. you realise… you don’t want control. You want this…..

“There is neither happiness nor misfortune in this world, there is only merely the comparison between one state and another, nothing more. Only someone who has suffered the deepest misfortune is capable of experiencing the heights of felicity. Maximilien, you must needs have wished to die, to know how good it is to live. So, do live and be happy, children dear to my heart, and never forget that, until the day when God deigns to unveil the future to mankind, all human wisdom is contained in these two words: ‘wait’ and ‘hope’! “ Three nights ago , I had a restless night. The following two nights were largely absent in rest as well. On this fourth night I sit on the toilet, finally descended from the mountain tops, wide eyed and awake as I recall how absurd these past three nights have been to me. The altitude of these mountainous regions I found myself in depleted me of oxygen and each night my mind and body panicked itself awake. Like the flowers on the ground and the trees that surround, the oxygen in the air naturally exists ; without it our bodies would fail us. They may not be sentient, but they are necessary life, maybe even more necessary, a prerequisite. Now I am off the toilet ; I can afford to shower again and I feel clean, under fresh sheets and lay against fluffed pillows. I stretched, and focused on the breath. I’ve always enjoyed such physical feelings, the expansion in my rib cage and my cervical spine from that prolonged inhale, gentle and deep, or that stretch from my scapula through my shoulders to my forearms and fingertips while I pronate and supinate. How refreshing, invigorating, inspiring ; most importantly , how eye opening this contrast can be. To stretch and to breathe is what I enjoy daily , that I require as a necessity , and to have that temporarily stripped as I fell into this state of delirium, from this lack of oxygen, from this lack of sleep, from a vision that oscillated between failing to focus on anything to focusing on everything and nothing , to a clouded discernment, to a renewed perspective. Such torture , such bewilderment. I admit I still fear death, yet I am much happier to be alive and well. In the midst of all this, I had finished a month long journey in the story of the Count of Monte Cristo, and to have read Dumas’s final reminder was a serendipitous touch from a mentor that never was, but a friend that everyone has : to experience the contrasts of life is to be granted the vision that allows us to see the spectrum of colors more clearly, to feel their essence more deeply; these senses lay dormant in our souls and make up who we are; who we are wakes up what we are ; how and when, makes the story. We are life itself, collecting memories ; we are the awareness in experience , we can be the vessels for change. “Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes. You must look into the storm and shout as you did in Rome. Do your worst, for I will do mine! Then the fates will know you as we know you”

Desire Is Not the Enemy ☸️ In Buddhism, the problem is not as simple as that something is wanted. A thirsty person longs for water. A seeker longs for Truth. A heart may even long for peace, beauty, or liberation. Desire, in this broad sense, is part of the movement of life itself. What binds the Mind is attachment - the tightening of the hand around what it wants. For example, Attachment whispers, "This must be mine. This must remain. Without this, I cannot be whole." And so Desire hardens into craving. What was once a passing breeze becomes a chain. The Buddha did not ask the heart of a being to become stone. He invited it to become free. There is a great difference between loving and clinging, between aspiration and possession, between caring deeply and building identity around what is desired. A lotus grows from mud, yet is not trapped by it. In the same way, a human being may have wishes, aims, and even deep devotion, without becoming imprisoned by them. Desire becomes suffering when the Mind wraps itself around it and calls it Self. So the enemy is not the arising of Desire, but the bondage of Attachment. When attachment loosens, Desire is purified. It becomes energy without slavery, movement without chains, and love without fear. 🙏 #Buddhism #Buddha #Buddhist #MindfulLiving #Mindfulness #Mindful #Metta #Zen #ZenBuddhism #books #BooksWorthReading #Peace #Meditation #Meditate #Dhyana #Dharma #SpiritualJourney #SPIRITUAL #compassion #Kindness #Wisdom #Sunday

“The Dark Angel” By Lionel Johnson Dark Angel, with thine aching lust
To rid the world of penitence:
Malicious Angel, who still dost
My soul such subtile violence!

Because of thee, no thought, no thing,
Abides for me undesecrate:
Dark Angel, ever on the wing,
Who never reachest me too late!

When music sounds, then changest thou
Its silvery to a sultry fire:
Nor will thine envious heart allow
Delight untortured by desire.

Through thee, the gracious Muses turn
To Furies, O mine Enemy!
And all the things of beauty burn
With flames of evil ecstasy.

Because of thee, the land of dreams
Becomes a gathering place of fears;
Until tormented slumber seems
One vehemence of useless tears.

When sunlight glows upon the flowers,
Or ripples down the dancing sea:
Thou, with thy troop of passionate powers,
Beleaguerest, bewilderest, me.

Within the breath of autumn woods,
Within the winter silences:
Thy venomous spirit stirs and broods,
O Master of impieties!

The ardour of red flame is thine,
And thine the steely soul of ice:
Thou poisonest the fair design
Of nature, with unfair device.

Apples of ashes, golden bright;
Waters of bitterness, how sweet!
O banquet of a foul delight,
Prepared by thee, dark Paraclete!

Thou art the whisper in the gloom,
The hinting tone, the haunting laugh:
Thou art the adorner of my tomb,
The minstrel of mine epitaph.

I fight thee, in the Holy Name!
Yet, what thou dost, is what God saith:
Tempter! should I escape thy flame,
Thou wilt have helped my soul from Death:

The second Death, that never dies,
That cannot die, when time is dead:
Live Death, wherefrom the lost soul cries,
Eternally uncomforted.

Dark Angel, with thine aching lust!
Of two defeats, of two despairs:
Less dread, a change to drifting dust,
Than thine eternity of cares.

Do what thou wilt, thou shalt not so,
Dark Angel! triumph over me:
Lonely, unto the Lone I go;
Divine, to the Divinity.

The Cowardly Lion Within 🎖️ “The next creature Dorothy meets as she travels along the Yellow Brick Road is a lion who is afraid to take his rightful place as king of the jungle. Other animals intimidate him, and his fears prevent him from facing any confrontation. When he attacks Toto, an animal much smaller than himself, Dorothy is horrified. She admonishes him strongly, and his threatening attitude dissolves into a tearful admission of his feelings of inadequacy. Once again Dorothy initiates healing for a wounded male character who is unable to function successfully. Although it is natural to be afraid when there is danger, the Cowardly Lion lives in a constant state of agitation that resembles a neurotic mind. He distorts reality by creating imaginary fears that perpetuate self-doubt and insecurity. In an effort to #compensate for his lack of confidence, he adopts an inflated and pretentious attitude that Dorothy shatters quite easily with a simple slap on the nose. He becomes naked and vulnerable in the presence of the feminine, dropping his defenses and exposing his soul’s torment. Lions are traditionally associated with royalty. In their natural state they are considered brave, bold, strong, and at the top of the food chain. They live comfortably in the wild and function with alertness, confidence, and ease. The lion’s graceful embodiment of power, physical strength, and attentiveness is an inspiration for the balance of mind, body, and spirit that comes with inner freedom and unencumbered living. The zodiac sign of Leo the Lion represents creativity, leadership, and the sun. Lions stand proudly on the British coat of arms, and crowned with a pharaoh head, they form majestic sphinxes in Egypt. Lions are credited with healing properties and goddess worship. Their long flowing manes bring to mind the strength and power contained in the hair of the biblical hero Samson. Although lions suggest bravery, generosity, and courage, they also represent the less desirable qualities of pomposity, overindulgence, and egotism. They are a gentle reminder that people in leadership positions must be vigilant in their use of power. Without awareness, it is easy to become domineering, greedy, and insensitive to the needs of others. When a lion enters the symbolic life of a person, issues relating to power, instincts, and passion often arise. Courage is an essential attitude that enables the development of love, trust, and truthfulness. It allows us to bypass our defensive reactions so that we can inquire into the nature of reality and fearlessly venture into the unknown. Without courage, the heart is unable to open and the mind cannot recognize the truth. Cowards rarely explore beyond the world they already know. I am reminded of a time I was preparing for a particularly challenging presentation, when a friend embraced me with well wishes and lovingly placed a Cowardly Lion figure in my hand. This simple gift brought a smile to my lips and dissolved the clutches of fear that were paralyzing me. It is easy to recognize our neurotic fears through the Cowardly Lion’s pretentious displays of bravado. Only in the presence of unconditional love can we relax and dissolve these protective facades. Then the self-doubts and insecurities buried within the psyche can come into the light and be healed. Although it is normal to fear danger, the intense anxiety of the Cowardly Lion prevents him from relating to others easily. As the Wizard reminds him, ‘All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. True courage is in facing danger when you are afraid and that kind of courage you have in plenty.’ As a small child, I was particularly fascinated with the Cowardly Lion. Hours disappeared as I studied his image and contemplated his existence. He reminded me of myself—bold and ferocious on the outside, timid and scared on the inside. I began to realize that everyone has a hidden #inner self and an #outer personality. I could see it in others just as I could in myself. Many times in my past this ability to see beyond the personality into a person’s inner world created confusion and disturbance. I was mystified by the games people played and the facades they hid behind. I would see the beauty and good intentions of a person’s heart and be blind to the inflated or self-defeating attitudes they had adopted. I took what they said at face value and was mystified when their promises dissolved like the Wizard’s hot air balloon. In my young adult years, I found myself on the edge of social gatherings waiting for opportunities to connect with someone beneath the plethora of masks I saw. It is only in the presence of Dorothy that the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion are able to address their inadequacies. She creates a climate of unconditional love and acceptance that stimulates healing and growth. When we are surrounded with a loving environment, our spirit naturally reveals and heals itself. No other self-improvement regimes are necessary. Dorothy’s gentle manner, heartfelt responsiveness, and persistent focus demonstrate the power and importance of the feminine as a healing agent. In the ‘Next Generation’ Star Trek series, Counselor Troy extols the value of healing in the presence of the feminine. By listening patiently when the captain expresses confusion, the counselor’s accepting and attentive attitude allows the identification of disturbing issues and the clarification of conflicting feelings. Just like Dorothy, the counselor creates an atmosphere in which people’s inadequacies are exposed and healed, so that they can resume functioning successfully. It is reassuring to see the power of feminine #intuition and sensitivity being honored so overtly in our culture now, particularly after having been so denigrated in times past.” ~Gita Dorothy Morena, Ph.D., Jungian psychoanalyst, The Wisdom of Oz: Reflections of a Jungian Sandplay Therapist, pp. 58-61 Coming later this week to Speaking of Jung: Interviews with Jungian Analysts 📸: John Kobal Foundation, Getty Images
