I've read that many people enjoy the following series of events: 1) Attempt to jump down the well 2) Get stopped by Snell 3) Send Snell home for the day while telling him that you, too, are heading to bed 4) Once he's gone, jump down the well 5) Die

Heard this was a GOTY, 9.5/10, mediocre, bloated, super fun, boring, masterpiece🔥 Can’t wait to try it😈

@awaken_realms This looks really interesting, gave me a bit of a "Voices of the Void" vibe, mixed with other games 👀

@LeonLenne More the reason to hold critics who do it for a living to higher standards I suppose

@Eligius607 @SpawnYaardReply I mean, even if people will ignore it, it will still add a layer of transparency between to the critics scores, no?

@_Saretz @SpawnYaardReply I really like your idea, but don't you think once that metric becomes standard, people will just ignore the personal one? Because it's entirely subjective, you hate Valorant, I hate Fortnite and can't get through batman Arkham asylum. Like, I think critics should just stick to +

Hot Take: 'its not for me' should be a rating in gaming reviews. There is no way everyone likes every kind of game. Imagine someone reviewing Soulslike when they are not into it. Imagine some reviewing JRPG when they are not into it. Maybe Crimson Desert will bring a change 🤷

Those parameters aren't all subjective, in the slightest. If something has never been done before in a game, or it takes a completely new approach to an older concept, then you can score it higher for innovation, for example. If something keeps rehashing the same formula (look at COD games) then you can score it low. How is that subjective? We even have tools for other parameters, you can MEASURE the performances of a game, rather than say the game runs poorly/well "in your opinion". If everyone has the same experience then the general consensus will be that the game runs poorly/well, based on objective data. You can say that some parameters have partial subjective aspects to it, and that's fair, but not all. And if you can avoid saying that "something is bad because it wasn't to your taste", then you are already talking objectively about it, or at least you're trying.

@spl_joshi @WillofScreens @JacoBee___ @SpawnYaardReply I don't believe the general consensus around Candy Crush to be that it is peak of gaming, at all. "Popularity" (downloads in this case) doesn't equal to quality alone, like I already said there are many parameters to consider.

@spl_joshi @WillofScreens @JacoBee___ @SpawnYaardReply I would say it's bunch of parameters that all need to be evaluated (technical execution, design, innovation, art direction, etc), but to keep it simple, it's the general consensus, usually. Whether you like it or not, whether it's "good" or "bad" in your eyes.

I'd be in favor of a dual score system for "critics", one personal: "how much I enjoyed it". And one more objective in scope:"how well it achieves its goals, despite my taste, and how will most players receive it". Does that imply having a higher degree of understanding of game design and broader audience appeal? Yes. And honestly, I think that should be in the job description already. Does that give "too much" power to "critics"? Perhaps, but if we'd have higher requirements for them, then we could also have a bit more faith in their words, I suppose. For regular users, you could leave it as a single score, to avoid overcomplicating things, but perhaps have it "weight" less on the final score. We have seen time and time again people giving 1/10 scores to games just because they didn't like them, or due to generic "review bombings", after all. Makes sense?
