GOP didn't spend $100m to save Cornyn from Paxton, they spent $100m trying to save GOP from Paxton. Sometimes you buy insurance, but a tornado smacks your house with a flaming dumpster anyway.

Paxton winning is a real “they’re showing you who they are” moment. The guy is such a slimeball there is no way he would’ve survived as AG before MAGA came along, much less be in line for higher office. The purest case imaginable showing that these are simply bad people.

This is a very belated realization. It was always true that whatever amorphous goals Trump was pursuing in this war were not going to be achievable at any acceptable cost.

We and our European partners need to finally get serious about giving Ukraine what it needs to not only survive the Russian onslaught, but defeat Russia.
