Attended a great talk at Duke University by @cjschneider8 of UC-San Diego. I'm excited to pre-order Christina Schneider's new book, The Responsive Union (amazon.com/Responsive-Uni…), which recognizes that, unless the EU signals responsiveness to citizens, its future is not bright.

Thanks to @SarahBBermeo for underscoring this point. Current events are not so unexpected if we think about liberal institutionalism's history.

Remembering @KofiAnnan_UN, whose 2001 @NobelPrize lecture (nobelprize.org/prizes/peace/2…) emphasized the the @UN Charter: “'We the peoples' are made up of individuals whose claims to the most fundamental rights have too often been sacrificed in the supposed interests of the state."
