There’s no coming back from certain things, and I don’t think people really understand that. Some damage doesn’t get undone, and once it changes how you see someone, that’s it. Not everything deserves a second chance, no matter how sorry they are.

Let’s set aside, for a moment, the debates about how the Mugabe children were socialised, their unchecked privilege or what they may have been exposed to growing up. This latest shooting tragedy is a sobering reminder that there’s a rapist, murderer, deadbeat, criminal, drug & alcohol addict and delinquent in all our children; in particular our sons. By all I mean yours and mine. For it will take one incident for that switch to flick to unleash the monster. And that no matter how well or unwell we raise them, no matter how stern we are on instilling good values, no matter how staunch we are on discipline, children will ultimately become people of their own choosing. Which is why parenting demands both vigilance, empathy, intense humility and shit loads of prayer. May the universe be kind to our children. May they in turn be kind to themselves and the world around them. And may God bless our children.
