If you appreciate the analysis I post here, zecstats.com/donate contains a shielded address to help offset costs. The all-in development cost, excluding my time, is about $160/mo. I would like to integrate more datasets soon which requires more storage and may bring the cost to around $300/mo. Donations will cover the core features that should remain free to the community. Donations will not change what I report on. My goal is to cover Zcash adoption like a professional product analyst. Wrote this before getting on a long flight back home from Prague.
It was one $10,000 donation and a handful of smaller ones: about $10,100 total at donation time, a bit lower now as price has relaxed.
Completely insane to raise ~3 years of server operating costs within 20 minutes from an anonymous donor. The Zcash community is amazing. Thank you again.
To be clear: the treasury is specifically for server and infra costs, and that's fully covered. This isn't about needing more donations there. I posted fairly quickly because I didn't want the treasury to get over-funded.
Separately, the rest of my work probably needs to become a self-sustaining business if I want to keep doing it properly.
I'm looking into that now: ideas include sponsorships, a newsletter, and consulting for Zcash-space businesses. If the consulting path goes anywhere, I'll be transparent about how that's kept separate from what I cover here.
For now, I'll keep building out the zecstats roadmap I've already laid out.

I gave WIRED the exclusive on our hands launch, and they wrote a really weird article about how we are sexualizing robotics… wired.com/story/the-1x-n… I felt pretty betrayed because that’s not what they told me they were writing about not is that what I’ve ever been about… actually I stand for quite the opposite… But I’ve come to find a lot of dishonesty and malice in the journalism community so I wasn’t surprised. This is what I sent the author… I’m only sharing this because I hope it encourages journalists to resist the click bait trap and tell truly awesome stories because I for one don’t believe journalism is dead— I think it’s just starting and just needs to evolve past the weird corner of the internet where data driven optimization turns everything into smooth brained shocking brain rot bullshit. The technological revolution we are going through should inspire a journalism renaissance. Not let it fall into further decay. There is so much brilliance at play in the world and the stories should be told! I'm enjoying the Ro Khanna show. Not because I agree with him. We are not aligned. It's because the people who funded Ro are all crying. Crocodile tears. These guys loved Ro when he and Democrats hated white Americans. Imagine giving a dime to Democrats in 2022, after the riots.

The “privacy is normal” one seems to resonate deeply with some people, particularly privacy advocates, but the word privacy itself has uncomfortable connotations for larger audiences. (Eg. privacy is for the bathroom).
It also doesn’t actually explain what Zcash is! A good slogan is not just pithy, it is a good explanation.
I tend to use the words “encrypted” or “untraceable” to describe Zcash.
“Encrypted Bitcoin” was an emergent and highly successful way to succinctly describe Zcash. I didn’t like it when I first heard but then I saw the “aha” moment in many newcomers when they heard it.
Also, slogans should change! We want to adapt to the best way to explain to the current Zeitgeist.
Am also a fan of explanations that highlight the rising AI surveillance era and how Zcash can defend against it, but I think we need to keep iterating to find one that clicks.
These things are continual iteration and adaptation. When something has run its course you don’t want to keep doubling down.

@PelicanInvasion @zecrimoni @genzcash I just want to point out that the US wasn't communist, but in 1933 Roosevelt, and in 1971 Nixon, did something with gold... The message doesn't bother me, but I believe #Zcash's mission is far loftier than that. There are many harsh realities in the world where Zcash can help.
