Generalfeldmarschall von Reichenau personally captures two shot-down Soviet pilots as POWs , 1941. He had a stroke in Poltova, Ukraine next year on January 17 , 1942 and his medical evacuation flight crashed and he died .

He died on March 17, 1945, just one hour after his daughter Anna. His son, Karl von Bomhard, also became a Bavarian general, and his grandson, Adolf von Bomhard, rose to the rank of SS general and commander of the Ordnungspolizei (Police).

Theodor von Bomhard was a Bavarian army artillery general who fought in the Franco-Prussian War and the Austro-Prussian War. during the Third Reich, he was allowed to wear the uniform of the Wehrmacht with , recognizing him as the most senior honorary officer in the German army
