@JohnGoldman They’re too lazy to put in the work. I’m 52 and my RHR is 42. The lower it gets from training, the better I feel.

20 years ago, a Connecticut city gov't seized a little pink house and gave it to a developer. SCOTUS said it was ok because it MAY increase tax revenue. Is the site a bustling tax-producing business now? No! Nothing was developed! Here’s what they destroyed for an empty lot:

@profstonge The "boom" is clear when one looks at manufacturing employment as a share of total employment.

Tariffs are delivering a Manufacturing Boom - Factory orders are up 5.5% - American steel just exceeded Japan for the first time in 30 years - First American aluminum factory in 40 years - John Deere, Whirlpool, Jeep and Apple are all coming home

The most predictable outcome of Trump's tariffs isn't that Americans are paying them (though we are). It's this:

The avoidance of discomfort has become a quiet epidemic. It shows up as: “Yeah, but I lost X lbs and I never felt hungry.” “Yeah, but my watch says my VO₂max is great and I only do a bit of strength work and some sprints.” Even if these things are true, they miss the point. What’s lost by embracing this narrative is the satisfaction of choosing the hard route - the kind you only get by leaning into discomfort instead of trying to "hack" it away. Like that feeling of satisfaction that comes from being out on a run in the snow, on a trail that’s usually busy, and realizing you’re completely alone. Not because it’s impossible… but because most people can’t fathom being uncomfortable for an hour. One way or another, discomfort is coming for all of us. Every small, voluntary discomfort is a chance to train your mind for when it’s no longer optional.

@JohnGoldman I lost 100 lbs in six months back in 2009 and have kept it off ever since. I literally looked in the mirror one day and said this is not the man I envisioned and made the adjustments.

Happy to share we finally have a draft of this available to share. We look at the impacts of the migration of prominent Sicilian mafiosi to America following fascist repression in Sicily. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

@DrEmmaZang I had a colleague reject a junior applicant because their record was “better than mine.” I thought they were joking. They were not.

This absolutely happens. When I was on the job market, during a flyout, a faculty took me to lunch and asked “how could you be so productive?” I answered very honestly “I just work very long hours every day.” He said “ Are you telling us you don’t have a personal life?” And I didn’t get the job lol
Prithviraj (Raj) Ammanabrolu@rajammanabrolu

PSA to more junior ppl but "too many papers" comes up as a reason to reject for both industry and academic hiring more often than you'd think
