thats good for you, the person who recommended this to me was able to find the right people to sign off that his minor foot tendon annoyance was service related and now he gets a payment the rest of his life, that to me is absurd. no actual disability, no change in his life, but he rates disability

The only reason I was approved was because I had clear evidence of spinal compression and had my ears damaged by the shitty ear pro that had a class action filed against them

There are over 30,000 vets who will never receive VA benefits since 2003. That's because they died from suicide from a war 99% of the US didn't serve in. That's on top of the over 7,000 that were shot to death, blown up or otherwise killed in war. But fraud.....

That is factually not true. the VA does acknowlege that there is fraud happening. the argument a lot of us are making is that there are approved disabilites that should not, thus considering it fraud thats currently happening. Give to those who truly deserve it, dont give to those who dont. the system needs an overhaul

The VA budget for 2024 was approximately 307 billion, with 57% of that mandatory spending (which includes disability) and 43% discretionary spending. Thats only going to get more expensive, are you really going to tell me that a new system would be MORE than one year of their budget? We cant make a system for LESS than the 150 billion we spend on disability?

@AdrienEmber @EricG1247 A new system would be obviously. we need to redefine what is actually worth the forever compensation and then clean things up, a new system and removal and recateogization of compensation is far cheaper than letting this continue for ever.

@_WormRunner_ @EricG1247 The question is: is it cheaper to let the fraud continue in the limited amount it’s thought to be or implement an entirely new system to ensure fraud isn’t happening? Whichever is cheaper will be the right answer.

Helluva time to single out veterans’ disability claims as a ‘broken system.’ I don’t know what veterans this guy knows, but the men and women I served with in Iraq and Afghanistan are 1000 times more likely to NOT claim disability for the things they rightly should. They measure their sacrifices against those who lost their lives or suffered horrible wounds, and then downplay the damage done to their bodies and minds over years of repeated combat deployments. And by the way, what some people call ‘fraud’ is often a misunderstanding of the long-term health consequences of war. Just look at all the cancers and other ailments we now know are linked to burn pit exposure - and which may take years to manifest. And there’s the 2023 Pentagon study that found that U.S. military aircrew had 24% higher cancer rates than the general public.

Veteran disability fraud is actually a very small percentage. As a matter a fact it is less than 1%. It’s actually very difficult for Veterans to get the benefits they earned and even harder for them to fake a disability. VA disability isn’t an entitlement program it is a benefit program. Before people start trying to take away benefits from Veterans let’s focus on all the other government fraud, waste and abuse.
