The Youth Justice Board has taken the decision to withdraw from X after serious concerns around the safety of children using that channel were highlighted during the Southport Inquiry on 13.04.2026. We were left with no confidence that X was taking this issue seriously. Yesterday, @DavidLammy and I launched the beginning of the biggest transformation in Youth Justice for a generation. Our youth services already do fantastic work, but to ensure we protect the public and reduce reoffending, we need the system to evolve.

🔄 While the overall reoffending rate dropped by 0.7%, the frequency of reoffending for those who do is at a 10-year high. This points to high levels of unmet needs. We need trauma-informed, targeted support to break these cycles. (6/7)

📊 The Youth Justice Statistics for England and Wales 2024-25 are out today. While we are seeing historic success in diversion and numbers in custody, the increasingly complex needs of those children who do enter the system is posing challenges. It’s also clear that the youth justice system is still not equitable for all children. To remedy this, partnership working must be strengthened at both a local, regional and national level. This must happen across the whole range of partners to ensure we treat every child as a child, tackle inequalities and support victims. 🧵 (1/7)
