Yesterday, @DavidLammy and I launched the beginning of the biggest transformation in Youth Justice for a generation. Our youth services already do fantastic work, but to ensure we protect the public and reduce reoffending, we need the system to evolve.

🔄 While the overall reoffending rate dropped by 0.7%, the frequency of reoffending for those who do is at a 10-year high. This points to high levels of unmet needs. We need trauma-informed, targeted support to break these cycles. (6/7)

📊 The Youth Justice Statistics for England and Wales 2024-25 are out today. While we are seeing historic success in diversion and numbers in custody, the increasingly complex needs of those children who do enter the system is posing challenges. It’s also clear that the youth justice system is still not equitable for all children. To remedy this, partnership working must be strengthened at both a local, regional and national level. This must happen across the whole range of partners to ensure we treat every child as a child, tackle inequalities and support victims. 🧵 (1/7)

Join us and Dr Sophie King-Hill on 4 December (14:00–15:00, Teams) for an evidence-based session exploring how to bring boys into the conversation on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). 🔍 What to expect: • academic insight from Dr King-Hill’s research on VAWG • when to use VAWG vs Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) • how to foster positive attitudes to prevent sexual violence and the importance of bringing boys into conversations around VAWG 💬 With space for Q&A, this session is ideal for those in youth justice, policing, social work, or policy. 📅 Free registration: bit.ly/4qUcWIq #VAWG #WhiteRibbonDay #YouthJustice #ViolenceAgainstWomenandGirls

We welcome today’s joint thematic inspection report on diversion from HM Inspectorate of Probation! 📝  It recognises the significant progress & innovation in out-of-court resolutions, which are vital for addressing children's vulnerabilities.  We accept the recommendations and are focused on working with partners to increase and ensure the equitable use of out-of-court resolutions, including Outcome 22. This is key to reducing disproportionality and ensuring fair treatment for all children.  🔗 bit.ly/48wFhOm #YouthJustice #OutOfCourtResolutions #DiversionMatters
