We have some sad news. For almost a year, we’ve been building Y. In that time, we launched an educational program, a bot, and an app. Millions of you joined us on Telegram, and hundreds of thousands used the app — and we’re deeply grateful for that. But despite all our efforts, we weren’t able to make Y truly useful, needed, or loved enough. So today, we’re putting it on hold. We’re sorry we couldn’t live up to your hopes. With love and sadness, The Y Team 💚

We've run 3 rounds of the Ref Contest now, and while they've been great for bringing new people in, it wouldn't be too entertaining to launch the 4th one, would it? We do have plans for contests focused on those who collect Y Points. But this will likely happen after Season 2 launch, since there aren't too many ways to gather points at the moment. So, while we wait for that and look for other engaging activities, we want to hear from You! What kind of contests would you find fun and exciting? What would you enjoy participating in? Drop your ideas, simple or ambitious, in the comments

@FarukMoham13074 This is not a problem. It's OK if you don’t have a biometric passport, you can still verify your social media accounts. We’ll be continuously adding new verifications so there will be plenty of opportunities to collect points and boost your Y Passport Score.

While #HatchingTheFuture has wrapped up, don't forget – Referral Contest is still going. Keep inviting your friends using your referral link in the Y Passport app ("Get more points" -> "Invite friends"). And don't forget to install the app itself r.y.info/trk2602

While waiting for the upcoming updates and Season 2, let’s talk about where to keep your crypto. This choice goes way beyond simple storage – it determines who has ultimate control, the security risks you face, and what parts of the crypto world you can access. Custodial Wallets: The "Crypto Bank" Experience If you use a major cryptocurrency exchange like Coinbase, Binance, or Kraken to buy, sell, and hold your crypto, you're likely using a Custodial Wallet. How it Works: The exchange acts like a bank or custodian. They manage the complex private keys (the secret codes that control your crypto) on your behalf. Your experience feels familiar – you log in with a username and password, and if you forget it, there's usually a recovery process. This makes it feel very convenient, especially for beginners or those focused on trading within that platform. Trading is often seamless, and converting back to traditional currency can be straightforward. The Trade-Off: That convenience comes with a crucial trade-off. Because the exchange holds the keys, you don't have direct, absolute control over your funds. This leads to the famous crypto expression: "Not your keys, not your coins." You're trusting the platform entirely. This trust carries risks. Exchanges are major targets for hackers (think Mt. Gox), and if the platform fails or goes bankrupt (like FTX or Celsius), your funds could be lost or tied up indefinitely as part of their assets. Your crypto held on an exchange is generally not protected by government insurance schemes and the exchange can freeze your account or restrict access. Non-Custodial (Self-Custody) Wallets: Being Your Own Bank The alternative is taking direct control with a Non-Custodial Wallet, using tools like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or hardware devices like Ledger and Trezor. How it Works: Here, you are in charge. When you set up this type of wallet, you are given the private keys, most importantly represented by a Seed Phrase (usually 12 or 24 words). This phrase is your master key – it allows you to access your crypto and acts as your only backup if you lose your device. The Power: The benefit is true ownership and control. No third party can freeze, seize, or deny access to your funds. You are immune if an exchange platform collapses. This control is also essential for interacting directly with the decentralized web (Web3) – think DeFi protocols, NFT marketplaces, and dApps. You also generally maintain more privacy, as setting up the wallet often doesn't require KYC. The Responsibility: This power comes with significant personal responsibility. If you lose your seed phrase, your crypto is gone forever. There is no 'forgot password' link, no customer support to help. You are solely responsible for protecting yourself against scams and hacks. Within self-custody, "hot wallets" (software like MetaMask) are convenient for daily use as they're online, but carry more risk; "cold wallets" (hardware like Ledger) keep keys offline for maximum security but are less convenient. Making Your Choice Neither approach is universally "best." It's about understanding the trade-offs: Custodial: Offers convenience and familiarity, good for beginners or frequent CEX trading, but you sacrifice control and accept platform risks. Non-Custodial: Provides full control, ownership, and Web3 access, but demands significant personal responsibility for security and key management. Many people use a hybrid strategy: keeping smaller amounts or trading funds on a trusted exchange (custodial) while securing larger, long-term holdings or assets used for DeFi/NFTs in a non-custodial wallet (often hardware for best security). The key is knowing who holds your keys and understanding what that means for you. What approach do you prefer for managing your crypto, and why? Share your thoughts and experiences below
