Great thread outlining the fascinating findings on new research about bats using cacao (aka chocolate! 🍫) plantations. Bats play a crucial role in suppressing some insects populations that can damage the crop. The way plantations are managed can influence this.

In scientific terms the #cacao tree is called Theobroma cacao 🍫. It derived from the Greek for "food of the gods" 🙏 I think there are no questions there, right? 🤤 But why, a #bat biologist like myself, should care about the best way to manage cacao farms to benefit bats? 1/9🧵
