Welcome to autumn, where I continue to be amazed at the dark, dark, dingy, scary Sunset Transit Center MAX platform. @trimet insists this is OK. It is NOT. Put some lighting in there, @trimet, so I can stop tweeting this.

I ride east from Goose Hollow every single day, so I know of which I speak. Come on, @PBOTinfo can you do your job here before the end of civilization?

It is in the interest of both @trimet and @PBOTinfo to get as many eastbound bike riders off the train at Goose Hollow. Why make them choose one of two shitty routes? (And done even start about how people on foot are utterly abused by this design!)

Not all of the stupid design mistakes of the Goose Hollow MAX platform are @trimet ‘s fault. How is it possible that @PBOTinfo has STILL not come up with a safe, usable, complete bike route to downtown from there?

Then we can discuss why it’s possible for a bike rider to get the green arrow southbound on 18th, but get cut off by traffic heading east when trying to get onto the platform.

I know that it never occurred to @PBOTinfo that anybody on foot or bike might need to access the Goose Hollow MAX platform, but maybe they could redesign the signals and paths with that in mind, just as an exercise.

@Geo_Rex_H @trimet How are drivers supposed to know this? Good design should be obvious. And it should be judged by its effectiveness. In this case, I see people frequently walking across the tracks only to bounce off the barrier halfway through. #FAIL

@__P__J @trimet On the downtown Max tracks east of 405, the Belgian Block pavers are used to try to indicate to drivers that they shouldn’t drive there. (There ARE a few streets with pavers that you CAN drive on, in Central Eastside, and in NW.)

I’ve figured out just what it is that makes the invisible crossing barrier at the Goose Hollow MAX station so infuriating: the track bed is paved in setts—expensive stone paving normally used in high profile pedestrian areas. Why, @trimet, why?

@AlYourPalster @foamer_person @trimet If you look at my picture, there IS a barrier, which is two parallel cables that—to somebody of average height standing on the platform—line up perfectly with the tracks on the far side. This is what @trimet considers “acceptable” design.
