@EricTopol @Waymo I wonder if the injury data is skewed because (I assume) most of Waymo traffic is within Cities versus highways

@Lexi_Leximo @Dr_Singularity It will take another 5 years to find out, but AI truly has the potential to help detect and treat disease much quicker than today's methods.

@Dr_Singularity AI already creating problems he mentioning. Your optimism is misplaced, you just parroting the hype. There is no reason to think that AI will solve our problems. Instead, it creates problems and then sells solutions.

This guy is dangerous for AI progress. I’m starting to see him as one of the biggest anti AI, decel voices right now. Someone needs to teach him about the concept of the Singularity and post ASI abundance. AI won’t create the problems he fears, it will solve them. Poverty, pollution, unequal access to education etc. With sufficiently advanced AI, they become solvable. Slowing this down doesn’t make us safer, it just delays a better world for billions of people.
Sen. Bernie Sanders@SenSanders

I spoke to Anthropic’s AI agent Claude about AI collecting massive amounts of personal data and how that information is being used to violate our privacy rights. What an AI agent says about the dangers of AI is shocking and should wake us up.

@verge You guys are so predictable. I’ve never seen a more biased tech publication in my life. All we see is mayhem with Waymo. Every day there is a new embarrassing video of them doing really stupid things and blocking emergency vehicles.

@SawyerMerritt Not hating on @Waymo but Notice how each metric says without injuries, if that’s the case Tesla has zero percent no incidents. They have so many issues with blocking and hindering traffic which is a stat they don’t mention that could cause an accident or accidents……

NEWS: Waymo has just announced that their autonomous fleet has now driven a combined 170 million rider-only miles without a human driver as of Dec 2025, up from 127 million in Sept 2025. That's 467,000 miles per day on average. Waymo also released updated safety stats. Locations: • LA: 37.8 million • SF: 53.5 million • PHX: 68.6 million • Austin: 10.7 million

I wonder if we’ll ever see a robotics company that takes off as fast as OpenAI and Anthropic did surely there will be a startup that challenges Tesla the same way OpenAI challenged Google

Waymo should let people buy the cars. They should then allow users to decide if they want the car dedicated to them or optionally enter it into Waymo service during certain times and hours (eg while they’re at work).

@wholemars Data is skewed as most Waymos drive in low speed at dense urban environments so likelihood for severe injury or airbag deployment is VERY VERY low. I wonder how their data compares to average numbers in city driving.

People giving Meta a hard time about this but honestly? Meta Quest is a great product. Probably the most successful VR product on the market. VR is hard. Still, far more reasonable than Microsoft Teams spending hundreds of engineers to put avatars on the product so you could have a meeting with your manager while looking like a Lego. That was truly mind-boggling.

wow, i didn't expect this from elon but he basically admitted two big things: "china is leading the AI race globally, and google is leading it in the west" yes, in the end, open-source AI wins. open-source models will only be 3–4 months behind the top labs -- but they have a bigger base, grow faster, and hold the stronger long-term edge

Think Deno is being acquired by OpenAI? ~8 of their employees posted about no longer working there today, one said two weeks ago they resigned, none of them said layoffs. All on bluesky, while Ry is posting about ChatGPT water usage not being that much Always been a huge Deno supporter, curious to see so many leaving

A lot of people are focused on when Tesla will catch up to Waymo, which is fair given that Waymo has thousands of driverless cars and Tesla only has a handful. But not enough people ask “When will Waymo catch up to Tesla?” 1. When will Waymo be able to take me on a coast to coast drive? 2. When will I be able to buy a Waymo? 3. When will Waymo cross 8 million cars that can run their software? 4. When will Waymo be able to work with no geofencing restrictions? My contrarian take is that it’s a lot easier for Tesla to catch Waymo than for Waymo to catch up to Tesla.
