Mike Vrabel won coach of the year with the assistant coach of the year, a QB who almost won MVP, and a historically easy schedule.
Everyone keeps saying they won 4 games last year like their win total over/under wasn’t 8.5 in preseason after they had tons of cap space and draft capital this offseason. The turnaround is impressive but it isn’t even the best way to measure overperformance when we have forward-looking measures. And is W-L overperformance the only metric that matters?
I think Vrabel did a great job, he’s a fine winner most years. Do think support coalesced around him due to an outdated way to think about coach of the year.
The NFL is a copycat league; in a 2025 defined by underdog teams overperforming, one of my parameters for best coaching job would probably be which coach will be copycatted the most this offseason. Macdonald, Ben Johnson, Coen, McVay, Shanahan all come to mind.
Macdonald, Johnson unexpectedly won tough divisions if the team success thing is the main focus. Again, not trying to knock Vrabel too much and it was obviously a tough field. But that’s the award that made the least sense to me this year.

Btw, gegen die gleichen Gegner war Maye deutlich besser. Zudem geht er mit einem Average-Team offensiv von 4 auf 14 Siege. Aber wenn man nicht tiefer als Total TDs oder Yards geht, dann soll man sehr gerne weiter Football auf RTL verfolgen :)
