Why do we still pretend like manager contracts (Contracts in general) mean anything? Some managers sign 6 year contracts and get fired a few months in. Others get a short contract which is extended if he does a good job. Contract length means nothing in modern football
Mark Goldbridge@markgoldbridge

I don't think Carrick is the right choice but I also don't agree with the short term contract. We need to build a future. Going short term stinks of not being sure.

Everyone who witnessed this knows the truth, Madrid was really behind before they signed José Mourinho. Mourinho won them their first Copa del Rey in 18 years, stopped the endless UCL Round of 16 exits, and rebuilt the mentality of the club from top to bottom. People focus too much on how it ended and forget what he walked into. Real Madrid were psychologically inferior to Barcelona at that time. Pep’s Barca were dominating Europe and humiliating teams weekly, and Madrid looked lost both tactically and mentally. Mourinho changed the entire atmosphere. He made Madrid believe they could compete again. The intensity, the siege mentality, the physicality, the obsession with winning every duel that version of Madrid laid the foundation for the monster they later became in Europe. People forget he reached three straight UCL semi-finals with Madrid after years of underachievement. He brought competitiveness back to El Clásico too. Before Mourinho, Barca were beating Madrid almost effortlessly. After Mourinho, every Clásico became a war. Even players from that era have admitted how much he changed the culture. The winning mentality that later helped Madrid dominate Europe under Carlo Ancelotti didn’t appear from nowhere. Mourinho helped rebuild the spine of that club. He may not have won the Champions League there, but he restored fear, standards, and belief at Madrid again.

🚨 Florentino Pérez: “José Mourinho was with us, he raised our competitiveness… …and from then on we won 6 Champions Leagues in 10 years”. 👀💣

Truly incredible the way Foden can disappear for 7 months, get 2 assists against a Crystal Palace B team, 1 of which was accidental, and it’s straight back to this 🤣
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Phil Foden back in business, two assists already, form temporary, class permanent etc. Great news for Manchester City. And England. Thomas Tuchel finalising his 26-man squad. He has others of Foden’s profile, at 10 or drifting off flank. But depth of options always welcome. #MCICRY
