@PhillipsPOBrien I think the problerm is no one is presenting a positive case for membership: what problems it would solve, why now, etc. The closest I have seen is a guy in twitter imagining that the whole island was teleported to eastern europe. That is about the quality of debate.

@PhillipsPOBrien I am not surprised that there is support. I certainly see people arguing for it or for caring about defense more generally. However it is unlikely to go to referendum until it is a slam dunk win.

That only 38% of the Irish population is opposed to NATO membership is very surprising. Its been said for ages that Ireland's neutrality was very popular.

@devilmonastery @d_feldman I replied to at least one survey request with something like “it sounds like you are collecting mental health data. Can you confirm this is being stored in line with policy and local laws?”. Magically I didn’t have to do the survey.

@d_feldman Horrific. I would assume that HR (“the cops”) planned to use it to weed out the malcontents, and then it turned out everyone was malcontented.

@0xMatt I would guess they have asked for a fingerprint of sensitive docs and will filter just those docs.

@andrewflood Ach, I just can’t see it. I think Leo will hang on as long as he can. I can’t see landlords selling for 90% when they could delay and sell for 100% of property value. Unless the landlord thinks the situation will become less friendly in the next year.

@__psn I suspect their thinking is that a fair few landlords want to cash in and that might cause a short term dip which can be claimed to be ‘proof’ & give hope to the trad FG voting 1st time buyers ( who are the ones best positioned to buy). So quick cynical election.

@andrewflood One answer is you need cash not assets (see svb or every developer in 2009). Another is you think prices are about to peak. One rational reason you think prices might be about to peak is that you think Ireland is about to build more houses, which it will not do.

@andrewflood If you think your house is worth x why would you rush selling it for less than x?

@0xMatt The us doesn’t need to copy, but I find the choice of giving free (well, taxpayer funded) healthcare to a subset of people odd.

@0xMatt Ireland has no equivalent but also no large pool of combat vets, the uk has military healthcare but I think mostly for serving or just discharged folks.

@NYCDubliner I would bet that in a few years it will be hard to buy a fridge that doesn’t connect to a crap manufacturer only internet service.

@NYCDubliner Sure. Speech recognition is cheap enough that our car has it for the last few years. But it isn’t an llm.

I believe this and I believe it'll drive me (and anyone else used to understanding smart devices) nuts. Stupid things like the fridge beeps when the door is open for too long and the heating comes on when it's after 3pm and cold will be replaced with "when the LLM says so". Agh..
Special Competitive Studies Project@scsp_ai

(3/9) ...there will emerge a much larger number of more specialized systems deploying LLMs that are used everyday in all our digital systems.

@andrewflood One reason I was happy with the states plan to expand forestry was coilte doesn’t care about access.

@andrewflood This is in line with every outdoors plan in Ireland - vast effort is expended in making the farmers happy, the farmers do the Lucy moves football thing, and no one is happy in the end.

This (Athlone to Galway greenway) is ridiculous- can you imagine any new road project not using CPOs to ensure the straightest line from A to B.

@luisbruno I don’t think the situations are comparable. Svb would have been fine if it wasn’t for thiel telling everyone to panic, and it will likely manage a happy recovery once the VCs find something else to groupthink about.

@sgreenfie @stkirsch The mission, should you chose to accept it, is to explain to some aml person how you came by 100k in cash and are carrying it through an airport.

I am on board a Delta flight right now. The person sitting next to me in first class refused $100,000 to remove her mask for the entire flight. No joke. This was after I explained they don’t work. She works for a pharma company.
