Ideally should've been passed to Harman but looking at the reception women's cricket got in India, Mithali decided to continue. In the meantime Smriti was coming into her own. Infact after 2020 wc W.V Raman wanted the baton to be passed to her but his contract was not renewed.

@CricCrazyVeena It's a can of worms. Mithali in 2018 threatend to leave in the middle of the world cup if the management didn't play her in her preferred position. It's futile to discuss all this, focus should be not repeating past mistakes.

If you will read that Mithali’s letter there she clearly mentioned that no issue with harman and praised her. Later in many interview said similar things. In that ketter She mentioned its about powar and other coa members but yes Mithali’s manger said few things which did not help. Also that letter which harman wrote with smriti’s sign on it to save powar’s job that created difference btw these players. Maybe powar asked harman to write or harman wrote herself i can not confirmed this one but anyways powar’s stupidly to handle that situation created all these.

WV Raman was good. He really helped many players improve their game. Wheras under powar and Amul players are not able to rectify their mistakes.
Powar is the real reason behind all this fiasco in women's cricket. Because of his decisions, the 2018 controversy happened, which led to the fallout between Harman and Mithali. Before that, the team was so cute and even now as soon things started looking same again.

History repeats itself, and it's exactly what's happening. The 2026 WC is making Harman stretch. Although her relationship with Mandhana is more cordial than Mithali so everyone assumed she'd pass it on her own.

In the same period (2017-2022) Harman was in abysmal form but had a good wc in 2022. So respecting her seniority alongwith her already captaining the T20i side, the ODI too was passed to her.
