@RichardHanania Either stupid or intentionally dishonest grifting. 2000 jobs on site at the physical datacenter but most employees whose jobs depend on the data center existing don't work at the data center. They work at HQ/remotely doing engineering, sales, IT, product, etc, etc.

I’d like to argue that the defining sound of the 2010s is trap. It started bubbling under early in the decade with Gucci Mane, Chief Keef, and Waka Flocka Flame. Started to creep into the mainstream around 2014 with Migos and Thugger. Exploded around 2016 once streaming took off.

It's so interesting to me how drastically different the personalities of Opus 4.7 and GPT 5.5 are.
GPT 5.5 is smart, hardworking, slightly autistic and doesn't want to talk much. Huge preference for diving into tasks and hammering tasks out over long, long periods.
Opus 4.7 is also obviously smart, but the only way to accurately describe Opus 4.7 is that he is charismatic but extremely lazy, talks a lot, but doesn't like to get work done. The only saving grace of Opus 4.7 is that he really does have an eye for design.

Opus 4.7 is the quintessential toxic employee you need to fire while GPT 5.5 is the one you're glad to have on the team, but wished you could understand him better / have a more pleasant time interacting with him.

@luke_metro ok i'm probably not familiar enough with non-IC/upper level roles but my pereception was more that director is a dime a dozen role at faang (relatively speaking) and you need to be a VP or something for clout but maybe i'm underestimating directors

what’s interesting is that as coding becomes less enjoyable, less people will be doing it. this used to be a highly rewarding, highly stimulating field. now it’s laboring at the slop factory. if you manage to hold on to your dignity your job is probably safe, even lucrative.

FIRE is the dumbest shit imaginable. Forget all the (correct) arguments about enjoying life while young: mathematically, it doesn’t work You are simply not earning enough *annually* ages 25-40 to fuel investments to hit a target number that’s feasible for a 45yr glide path
