My family member is in her early 80s. Well-educated. Well-spoken. Sharp as ever on the surface.
At her last appointment, the doctor asked her to draw a clock and fill in the numbers. She couldn't do it.
I never would've guessed she was "that bad."
That's the thing about cognitive decline. It often hides.
@dalerwills That is so sad! My sister moved into a rented house recently and the previous tenants left their cat locked in the shed and her boys only found it after it had died 😣 they were so sad
We had a tenant move out of one of our rental properties and leave behind a mountain of trash.
As awful as that was, it got worse.
They also left behind two cats… to die.
One was locked in the garage with no food and no water.
The other was trapped in the house with no food and had water only because the toilet seat had been left up.
If we hadn’t gone back into that garage for another week or two, that cat would’ve been dead.
I genuinely can’t understand how someone could do that to an animal.
The crazy part?
These cats are unbelievably sweet.
We brought them out to the farm and we’re working to acclimate them into becoming farm cats now. Hopefully they’ll have a much better life ahead of them than the one they came from.
People can leave trash behind.
That can be cleaned up.
Leaving living animals behind to suffer is something entirely different.
Uncut grass keeps the ground at around 19.5°C
Grass cut to 10 cm raises the ground temperature to about 24.5°C
Bare ground in the middle of summer rises to over 40°C
It's important to raise awareness #NoMowMay
@BardCumberland@HomesEngland Planning permission has been passed for a hay meadow next to me. It has skylark, lapwings, curlew. Deer roam through it and foxes hunt. All of this will be replaced with housing. Its devastating 😢
Some of Newfy’s long standing followers will recognise this paeony. I dug it up and brought it with me from NT1. I had been told they don’t like being transplanted, but this one has done just fine!
The day is nearly over and it has been exactly a year since Auntie Kes passed. Lots of people have said how she helped them, how they miss her. She lives on in our memories. In future we’ll focus more on young Bess but will never forget Auntie Kes. The goodest of girls ❤️
Tomorrow is the anniversary of Auntie Kes’s passing. But Dad isn’t sad or upset. It’s a celebration. She lead a long, happy, and fulfilling life. She told us when her time was ending, and she spent her last week on holiday at the beach and visiting friends. She was a good girl
Breaking News! Now here's a thing! Hudad has signed up to cycle from London to Paris in September 2027. He's got 16 months to train and get fit! He hopes to raise many thousands of pounds for @OvarianCancerUK Wow!

I don't want a smart meter, I don't want a heat pump, I don't want an expensive, inferior EV, I don't want to see fields full of solar panels & wind turbines (that stand still, when it's blowing a gale & destroy our birdlife) & they can leave our tumble driers/log burners alone!
@Kesthecollie A year ago today I saw Kes down here in Cornwall .I’m so glad I had that opportunity even though it was a sad time, but she had a lovely last holiday that week.❤️
We have become new parents. Today we brought Toby home - he is a small Spanish podenco (almost 2 yrs old). Currently very unsettled, but we will give him all the time and love he needs to settle in 🧡 (We have adopted him from the same rescue that let us adopt Victor).
@HansFiene I've tried w/out success to teach worship leaders to select songs w/ a normal vocal range and to play them in a key where normal humans can sing.
Most have no idea what a normal vocal range is or how to play in another key.
Worship songs are performances for the worship band.
How would you distinguish between a hymn and a worship song?
I think the most important factor is “was this written to be sung by the congregation or a vocalist?”
@dghodgson I remember scraping ice off the inside of the bedroom window in the morning. The bed piled with blankets & coats. 🥶 And foreign holidays were for other people but not something my parents could afford.
When I was a kid poverty meant you were cold and starving without a pot to piss in. It seems poverty now means that you can’t upgrade your phone every year and your trainers might embarrass you in front of your home boys
Spraying just one dandelion with roundup will kill 100+ pollinators.
The flower won't die right away and will be visited by dozens of bees and butterflies, poisoning them as well.
NEVER spray spring dandelions. Ever.
